The Mirror Visitor is a french YA fantasy series that I've come across around in February. At first, I was really doubting whether or not I wanted to buy the first book of the series since it was advertised as a romance fantasy novel and I struggle a lot with romantic pieces but boy did I make the good decision to buy it. So the plot revolves around Ophelia, your typical short, weak, and clumsy protagonist, she has to oblige to a forced marriage in a faraway land for the sake of her family and the ability to come back home once in a while. So far it seems really cliche' but the world-building and the fantasy aspects of the story are what really make you want to read more at first.
The world in "The Mirror Visitor" has been destroyed by some kind of event, big islands of random terrains were thrown into the atmosphere where they remained, creating therefore, the Arcs that different populations live on. Ophelia's Arc is Anima, getting its name from the ability that the people on Anima have which is essentially animating objects through their emotions. Ophelia is not only able to do that but she can also read the history of objects by touching them and feeling the emotions that the past owners of an object have felt while carrying it around. Another ability that she has, which is very rare, is being able to go through mirrors and reflective surfaces. Once she enters a mirror she can travel in any part of the arc through it as long as the place where she wants to go to has a mirror where she has reflected herself into once before.
Something also very interesting about Ophelia is that her overall clumsiness comes from an accident she has had when she was younger and had tried to pass through a mirror for the first time. The accident inverted her internal organs and left her dealing with a very overwhelming clumsiness that gets in her way a bunch of times.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when talking about these books. Mind you there are no spoilers here, all of these things you can find in the preface of the first book, but I think that anyone could understand why I think the world-building and the fantasy elements of this series are very interesting.
Speaking a bit more about the plot, it is a great plot! I've heard some people saying that it gets messy and too intricate to keep track of but I don't think that's the case here, it's just that you have to be a bit patient and read between the lines. Like most YA fantasy novels, there are some cliche plot devices in this series but I find that there are also many more unique themes and concepts. Ophelia isn't perfect but she doesn't become too annoying (something that I find happens very often in fantasy scenarios), she never really pities herself but she doesn't hate herself either, she just really tries her best and maybe sometimes she's a bit awkward. One of the other main characters, Thorn, her soon-to-be husband is at first glance your typical disinterested male protagonist, really rude and misogynistic at times but one of the things that I've perceived right away was that he was extremely awkward, socially inept and surely dealing with a bunch of trauma, so I like his character a lot because he's not as one dimensional as most male leads that I've read about before.
Anyway, this is about all that comes to mind right now lmao, this was a really random kind of review, take it as you wish I guess I just wanted to boast a bit about this series that I like a lot. Again I haven't spoiled anything that isn't immediate general knowledge so if you want to read the books please do so! So far 3 out of the 4 books have been translated into English, the 4th and final book is going to be released in America soon (or it probably has been released by now already idk, in Europe and specifically in Italy it came out shortly after it got published in France).
I'd love for this to become a show one day but one can only wish ;;;
see ya and tell me your thots

i recommend you start with something easy, i tend to buy books and never read them cause I can't easily get into the mindset
if I could rec another book you could try "Here's your hat what's your hurry" by Elizabeth McCracken, it got several short stories and they're very good c:
