When you talk about your favorite group do you refer to their achievements or how much you personally enjoyed the song? It's kind of a weird mixture for me tbh.
Some of my fav titles of WJSN (Secret, Dreams Come True, La La Love) didn't achieve much compared to other WUJU comebacks but they're my favorite. At the same time Boogie Up era where WJSN won 4 Music Shows was an amazing time as was their first win with SMSY. I can't say that some of those things they achieved didn't matter to me because they do matter. You want your favs to be successful.
I have some VS statements I'd like you to answer
Which would you choose?
1. You aren't a big fan of the comeback but it does really well VS loving the song but it doesn't do well
2. Stanning a group that has a lot of content and is successful but you don't enjoy their music consistently VS stanning a group with low content but excellent releases
3. Your favs change their sound and it does better than their classic sound VS Your favs continually release the same style of song with same results
4. Your favs debut and are immediately successful but slowly lose fans overtime and end too soon VS Your favs flop on debut but build a strong fandom and eventually become successful lasting a long time
Just random scenarios I thought of let me know what you think

If my faves are successful then all the better. But if they flop then I will flop with them. I stan a lot of nugus and indie artists that will likely never be successful at the level some demand. But that is okay because I like them and enjoy their work. If they achieve something I will praise them for a job well done but the enjoyment of the music is paramount.

(•—•)It's a weird mixture for me too... I'll talk about Seventeen since that's all I know jashdfa but I'm definitely more on the enjoyment side rather than the achievement side since I like finding enjoyment in things. I think focusing too much on achievements can take the fun out of it.
1. Loving the song but it doesn't do well.
Home was one of their most successful comebacks (most music show wins, not too sure about where it debuted on charts) but it's one of my least favourite title songs of theirs. I don't actively choose to listen to it; the only time I listen to it is when it pops up but I usually skip it ajshfda
There are a lot of title tracks I LOVE but they didn't earn many music show wins or last long on charts but I listen to them all the time.
2. Stanning a group that has a lot of content and is successful but you don't enjoy their music consistently.
I feel like if it was a different group I would've chose the other option but I genuinely like all the members in Seventeen so watching their varieties, interviews, performances, etc can make up for any music releases I wasn't a big fan of.
3. Your favs change their sound and it does better than their classic sound.
This was a tricky one for me. I love Freshteen/their early sound and as much as I love how refreshing and uplifting those sounds are, I find it more exciting when they experiment with different sounds and it becomes a success. I like how it feels like you're on a journey with them and watching them grow.
4. Your favs flop on debut but build a strong fandom and eventually become successful lasting a long time.
I think this has been the case for Seventeen; the fact that recently all members resigned with Pledis gives me reassurance that they will last for a very long time together which warms my heart bc they're pretty much my ride and die group. I don't/can't see myself stanning anyone else.

The scenarios are starting to hit closer to home with me and TBZ. After Kingdom, they've become quite successful in their own right. And I'm extremely happy for their success but haven't liked their recent releases all that much. I feel like the longer you stan a group the more achievements start to mean to you.

- I'm okay with the song does really well even if I don't like the song. I rather have my favorite artists get some recognition rather than stay in the shadow. In K-pop public and brand power is important so if a group is known any of their songs would get more attention, even a "boring" ballad or an experimental song
- That one is quite hard, it depends of the type of fan you are. A group can release a lot of contents you like even if you don't like their songs. If you're only into music and you don't mind about contents option 2 is the best. I think I'll choose option 1, I like to have more contents even if I don't enjoy some of their songs. Although I'd be okay with both choice.
- It happens for artists to change their sound with time so I'm okay with that, especially if it's sounds better or if it does better on charts and sales. Old sound will bring some nostalgia and some memories that only early fans can experience or tell. Not being able to change your sound can mean you aren't able to do something else even if others will praise your consistency.
- I'm more into an Oh My Girl path rather than a Momoland one. An immediate success or a huge buzz can be very helpful but that means it can fall back very quickly. I like when it's slow and progressive, building step by step, even if that means starting with almost no success or having more struggles. But fandom and success built with time is more stronger and more reliable in my opinion.

It's so funny tbh the longer you stan the more you realize things dont last forever and you start to cherish some of those memories a lot, For me I like to remember 2019 WJSN a lot because so many great things happened. Like at this point I would never unstan WJSN it's been 5 years so all the experiences and memories have become one thing like not only do I enjoy the things they did but they also achieved things they never have before and it's really exciting when both things align imo.

1. I think since I've been in the "I love the song but it's not popular for a long time" lmaao idk what it's like to dislike my favs comeback
2. I would like somewhere in between lmao, because not liking a lot of the songs is not gonna make them my favs for very long but not having comebacks or content is hard to keep engaged in a group
3. Yeah I like the groups to experiment to find something they like that doesn;t always make it successful tho, so idk I just will support either lmao
4. Yeeah the longevity path is the way to go for me, if they can last a long time that's great
I don't really care for achievements but I want my favs to do well so they can continue to release music and have variety shows

even though my answers are like this, I do think music is important! if they continue to release music I don't like one after another, I might lose interest. if b-sides are good, I can ignore the title tracks i don't like.

This, need a balance between songs you like and having contents to keep you engaged
For example groups with lack of contents : Blackpink and Everglow, although I'm not sure anymore about the latter but I have the feeling they could do better, like do more vlive for example.
Nature and Dreamnote keep giving contents but still no comeback this year so it's hard to follow.
On the other hand Rocket Punch, fromis_9, ITZY or woo!ah! had both contents and songs for fans.
Twice's songs aren't for me but at least they have contents for example, so I keep watching them even if they aren't my fav.

luckily my main groups either improve over time or keep pumping out good music. Either way, i am excited to watch all the extra stuff that is released along side of the music whether it be variety shows or reality shows.
As for soft stan groups, i may bounce if the music keeps being shit.

:tea1: Considering that Dye is their best selling album, but I pretend that it doesn't exists, I think we know the answer to that
2. Stanning a group that has a lot of content and is successful but you don't enjoy their music consistently VS stanning a group with low content but excellent releases
Hmm ... I only stan GOT7 and it won't change and they don't really fit either categorieseven with 2020's existence But in a hypothetical world where I'd stan another group it would be music over content for me; I don't rewatch stuff, so the amount doesn't matter that much to me, but I replay songs
3. Your favs change their sound and it does better than their classic sound VS Your favs continually release the same style of song with same results
This depends on whether I like the new style or not - if I do, I have no problem with them changing it, but if I don't I'd prefer if they stuck to the old stuff Guess I'll go with the first one, not like sevens were ever consistent with their tts lol
4. Your favs debut and are immediately successful but slowly lose fans overtime and end too soon VS Your favs flop on debut but build a strong fandom and eventually become successful lasting a long time
I'm not getting scammed by not getting at least 7 years of music from them

For me it's all about enjoyment of the music. Achievements are good only in the sense that they might be an indicator of how long the group will exist.

Secret and La La Love are my two favorite WJSN songs, so yes, I'm in the same boat as you.
Boogie Up (and Red Velvet's Ice Cream Cake, to give another example) are in the "nice, the fandom loves it but I'm not really into it" category.
I have some VS statements I'd like you to answer
Which would you choose?
1. You aren't a big fan of the comeback but it does really well VS loving the song but it doesn't do well
Loving the song.
2. Stanning a group that has a lot of content and is successful but you don't enjoy their music consistently VS stanning a group with low content but excellent releases
Excellent (for me) releases.
3. Your favs change their sound and it does better than their classic sound VS Your favs continually release the same style of song with same results
I think groups that stick to the same style are bound to grow stale.
4. Your favs debut and are immediately successful but slowly lose fans overtime and end too soon VS Your favs flop on debut but build a strong fandom and eventually become successful lasting a long time
Either of the above is fine with me as long as I like their music. In Kpop, good and interesting music is no guarantee of success.

I forgot to talk about achievement. Idgaf about it when it comes to stanning. Obviously, I want them to succeed and am happy when they do. But ultimately I would and have stanned a lot of "unsuccessful" artistsluckily my main groups either improve over time or keep pumping out good music. Either way, i am excited to watch all the extra stuff that is released along side of the music whether it be variety shows or reality shows.

1. You aren't a big fan of the comeback but it does really well VS loving the song but it doesn't do well
i can live with my favorite groups having a couple of comebacks that aren't for me, but if it happens consistently then there's no point for me to be their fan any longer as i'm always here first and foremost for the music
2. Stanning a group that has a lot of content and is successful but you don't enjoy their music consistently VS stanning a group with low content but excellent releases
can't keep up with most group's content anyway, i like going at my own pace which usually means sporadic and in short bursts, so this is an obvious choice for me especially with my "here for the music" mentality to begin with
3. Your favs change their sound and it does better than their classic sound VS Your favs continually release the same style of song with same results
"does better"? as in sales or general opinion, etc.? either way, i'd probably go with this one anyway as plenty of groups i love have changed and i've been into it
4. Your favs debut and are immediately successful but slowly lose fans overtime and end too soon VS Your favs flop on debut but build a strong fandom and eventually become successful lasting a long time
if the end result is my favorite group being successful and lasting a long time then i feel like that's the obvious choice tbh
