LINE Japan just revealed the results of their yearly girl group survey. Almost 600 000 line users were asked to name their favourite girl group.

(results translated by @seinedoru on twitter)

In first place for the third year in a row is Nogizaka46 thanks to their large popularity among male fans. According to their fans, the main reason they liked them were because they looked good and liked their visuals.

In second place for the third year in a row is Perfume with their high popularity regardless of age and gender. Their fans credited their "good dance and music" as well as "particular world view" for why they liked them.

In third place is NiziU with a very high popularity among women. Their fans like their dance and energy, and more than 40% of the respondents said they had followed the group since Nizi Project (their audition/creation show).

In fourth place is Momoiro Clover Z. Their popularity was ascribed to their energetic and cheerful personalities.

In fifth place is TWICE. The Kpop group is popular thanks to their good looks and dance skills.

Rounding up the top 10 are kpop groups Blackpink and Girls' Generation and the Akimoto Yasushi-produced groups AKB48, Sakurazaka46 and Hinatazaka46.

Full results including gender and age breakdowns can be found in LINE's article and in the tweet below:

45k people is an extremely small sample size for a country as big as Japan (it's only 0.036% of the population) but interesting to see NiziU being quite popular among women aged 30+

It's a good result! :pandasantacookie:

45k is actually an incredibly large sample size.
Assuming random sampling and a population of 130 million you only need 16-17k people to answer the survey to get a 99% confidence that the results are off by less than 1%.
Now the sample isn't completely random as it has a bias due to only including LINE users but 45k is still a significant number. So these results are pretty reliable.
