Bandi, did you know that Wooseok almost froze in the middle of the road today? What a cold day! I knew from the forecast that the temperature would drop below zero this morning, but maybe because it’s been unusually warm this year, I couldn’t imagine just how cold below zero would feel. I thought, “Oh, wearing a winter padded jacket should be enough, right?”

So, off we went... but wow, after walking just about 150 meters, we were already hunching our shoulders like turtles retreating into their shells! (This expression might not translate well... but it’s like your body shrinks up because of the cold.) Even though I wasn’t too worried, I have this habit of dressing warmer than necessary, so I also wore a thick fleece-lined sweatshirt. Still, experiencing subzero weather again after so long made it feel even colder.

Even the smell of the air has changed noticeably. It now has that fresh, untouched crispness, you know? It reminds me of what I imagine the transparent, clean ice in Siberia or the Arctic must smell like—though I’ve never been there. Summer smells like flowers and grass, autumn smells like fallen leaves and that special “autumn” scent I mentioned before, and winter has this fresh, icy feeling! At least, that’s how it feels to me.

But you know what was even more curious? Even though the clock said it was morning, I saw a round, full moon high in the sky, moving from the south to the west! I found it so strange that I kept checking my phone as I walked. Did I get confused and leave the house at dawn? Of course, I know that in autumn and winter, you can sometimes see a pale white moon in the morning. But today felt different! Before the sun had risen, the full moon was shining brightly with a yellowish glow.

It wasn’t a waning moon in the west or anything usual that would make sense. It was a full moon, almost in the southern central sky, moving toward the west. To the Earth science experts among you, Bandi, could you explain why that happened? (Thanks again for all the amazing information you’ve shared before!)

Ah, I wish I’d taken a picture of the moon, but the cold completely took over my brain. Banbi friends in the Northern Hemisphere, how was your morning? Was it very cold? Take care, drink warm drinks, and dress warmly.

Oh, right! Christmas is now only about a month away! Lately, I’ve been listening to Christmas songs, and my favorite is Christmas Day by Fantasy Boys. ☺
