I think you can be mad tho as they've been doing melody projects for years now and the only time they get a proper teaser, budget or some kind of extra effort just coincidentally happens to be while conveniently promoting a Jinyoung Park song?
I remain unconvinced the members actually even wanted this to be their melpro and more likely are just being professional and doing what the company wants and hyping it up as they always do.

I personally feel like not only was this a BS screw up that once again only served to diminish the failing reputation of Twice but also publicly humiliated the group once again and for what? So the melody project could be hijacked to advertise a JYP song?

As for the last part the reality is sadly upon us, within two years I feel Twice will only drift closer to the fate of Got7 and many other JYPE acts that came before them.

I see almost every other company making an effort with their groups and trying something, with Twice? Nope. It's like 6 weeks into 2021 and already the company has pretty much ignored all the things we complained about in 2020.....already had a merch drop, a photobook, a concert certain fans can't even view, pointless monograph, a scandal for plagiarism, a new pay to use social media app, etc and to cap it off nothing that could be considered promotion.

This wouldn't be so bad if the members were off ad resting but they aren't they are going to award shows, filming for the company and have had schedules at the company since the start of the year. Another year of the same bullshit quite honestly.

I think Chaeyoung MP was really cool and decently filmed, and Jihyo's one was simply great (still mad JYPE didn't release it on youtube and never promoted properly to the point it feels like there is 10 people at best who know it's actually exists). But yeah, I have reached the point when I kinda wish next TWICE release will be JYP song, since it's the only way TWICE will get high-budget MV and promo instead of this cheap CG box set mess they've been putting out for way too long.

Anyway, I came to acceptance stage I suppose, and planning to enjoy what's coming.

Dude, after explosive start for both NIZI and ITZY it feels like JYPE is really slowing down with them. It's all in for stray kids or what?

I 100% agree right now, I think when JYP himself is involved we get the works so bring it on in some respects I would be happy to see him back on the track and given(sorry to be cruel) hard that new project of his failed with Yoyomi I'm going to take his tongue in cheek comment about going back to making stuff with Twice and w/e as a literal possibility that's what's gonna happen lol.

I think it's a few reasons, but as a BG even with 0 GP interest the ceiling for Stray Kids is simply higher than Twice and Niziu for album sales, concerts, longevity, etc just by them being a boy group so I see it as the company just throwing more budget at them and hoping they turn into a Seventeen or NCT where they go from struggling to pas 300-400 thousand to multiple million selling albums a year. From a business pov it just makes sense.
Tho I feel it's going to be very tough since NCT, BTS, 17 aren't slowing down at all and with TxT, Treasure and now Enhypen competition in the BG market is tougher than ever and they only have a finite number of listeners to convert into fans.

Tho I think Niziu still get a lot of promo and effort we just don't see it since Sony manages them day to day I think.

Nizi have been picking up a ton of endorsement over the last few months iirc. Feel like I saw something about HM recently. Japanese promo is so localised we wouldn't even know about it really unless it was specifically a kpop group.

I have also passed the acceptance stage for where the group is heading. Doesn't matter what happens, if they do better or worse, nothing changes. Looks like the company will see out this approach until renewal and then we'll see what everyone does. Some fans seem to think the money Twice are bringing in is irreplaceable but by the time the company has squeezed everything out of them it'll be replaceable. They'll do it through Nizi in Japan and Stray Kids/Itzy elsewhere, with a bunch of new groups expected to debut this year as well to make up shortfalls.

More than 5 years in and JYP's idea of branching out for members is appearing in random "special MV's" for not even new songs (and on top of that, for either tiny artists or ones that haven't been popular in a while iirc), which is promo idols do pre-debut (as Twice have already done) and still persisting with them just doing cover songs and thinking labelling it a melody project means anything extra.

Agree with the points made here. At this point, I'm just gonna go and enjoy whatever time we have left with Twice before the end of their contract then follow my bias on whatever career path she plans to take. It's very disappointing how much the company has mismanaged them. I've been very optimistic about jype before because they really did seem like a good company to be in when compared to other big entertainment companies but ever since being a Twice fan they've almost always disappointed me in how they have handled issues and concerns regarding Twice. And I've mentioned this before with my other sns account but the jype artist with the best promotion and management is park jinyoung himself. I guess that's the perk of being the major shareholder and founder lol

@NewUser yeah agree, I think Niziu had a fairly good amount of CF's in Japan and have had a couple of TV spots as well as being on a few year end music shows and festivals, we just don't really see it and no one here or on other forums really post about it much so it seems a lot isn't happening with them when they are actually being kept quite busy.

Aslo have to agree on the point about the 'special' MV's....this is simply not promo for Twice and not fitting for a group of their status and age. This is rookie stuff. This is in fact the complete opposite and is actually using Twice members to promote other acts, not themselves. I mean no disrespect to those artist but look at their channels, YukaDD most popular video's are around 1-3m views and while Kobukuro used to have okay views in the past 3-5 years they have struggled to pass 4m views for an MV.
You're talking about a group with multiple videos with hundreds of millions of views on them doing 'special versions' is only benefiting YukaDD and Kobukuro if honest.

The funny thing about the "special MV's" are that some were acting like Momo had asked for it to help a friend out but then Sana doing one a month later and explicitly stating that she was asked is a testament to the fact that Warner are asking them to do these for their other acts (I think it'd be surprising if the members will ever say no to that purely out of them being incredibly nice/having more time).

The Yuka DD one came out weeks back before Momo's with an official MV already, and Kobukuro's was nearly a year old. Just random.

It's just funny because they've done such a bad job of promoting Twice in recent years and then to cap that off they try and use the members to promote their other acts under the guise of Twice promotion as well.

It literally says in the description of the Yuka video - "It is very first time, that the member of TWICE appears in another artist’s video clip. This is a historical clip for both yukaDD’s fans and TWICE’s fans." - trying to push it as if it's significant for both sides. Can only laugh at this point.

Yes my thoughts exactly, anyone thinking this is promotion for Twice is delusional and too naive to realize Twice are the ones being used to promote the other acts.
The story also changed from the Kumbaya, don't rock the boat Once's who were saying at first this is great because Momo is helping a 'friend' by being in her video since they used to train in the same dance school together people were using that angle to justify it, but as we quickly found out they weren't in the school ever at the same time and had in fact never even met. They then changed the story to 'finally WMJ promoted Twice' ...

I'm just like honestly? This is the level now? Have we gone back to the days of Sana appearing in A or some of the girls in Only You? When did Twice members become rookies again and getting thrown a MV cameo(not even the official music video) become good promotion?

I mean no offence intended to YukaDD but what 'fans' is she bringing to a 5 year old near veteran Kpop group from appearing in a special version of her song? Warner trying to push either as beneficial to Momo, Sana or Twice is embarrassingly stupid we're all adults here just say it as it is, you want to leach off Twice's name while not promoting them.

It's actually quite insidious and infuriating once you consider they only real 'promo' they've got in Japan in the last 2 years was promoting these special MV's and promoting Nizui as host on their show, other than that? Dust.

The real question is does Republic Records has artists nugu enough to "help" TWICE members with american promo?

Yeah it's obvious that this was just a path for Republic to get into the longer term kpop game.

Snag the 3rd biggest brand/group in kpop and they've done what exactly? You feel like they saw BTS/Army and thought fans can do all the work but that's now how it works for a group that has never done anything for the west previously. No collabs with known artists, no appearances on popular shows etc. Twice being as popular as they were in the west (especially relative to others who had the genre/push) with no promo and bright/cute music was always impressive but it was also mainly based on fans that were into kpop already.

People were hyping up the Colbert performance but it was just purely for Youtube. You honestly look at the other artists that had done the same program on his youtube channel and you probably won't recognise 95% of the artists, that's how low key it is. They also barely get any views on average which just tells you it's just the artists fans bringing the views to those performances.

People were attributing M&M to Republic especially with the names involved and it's honestly one of the biggest mis-steps the group has ever had. They've probably done more bad than good as a result for the group.

I'm glad to see this again, almost the whole discography charting inside the top 100, Feel Special could even reach 500K in gaon next year. I was getting really worried last year when for like 4-5 months TWICE barely charted any album in the whole monthly top 100, I panicked a little bit in april 2020 when TWICE had 0 albums in the top 100, I think that was a record breaking thing.

@Elessar yeah shocking. It's like 180k or there about to enter the top 10 and about 13m index to get top 10 on Gaon, never seen such an empty house, even IU at 550k is number 1 on Melon. Really weak stuff. PAKs are also a basically irrelevant joke these days that almost any song to hit number 1 on the charts will get. Just look at the joke that is the Refund Sisters being the girl group song with the most ever PAK hours and it's now fallen below I Can't Stop Me and Dinnga on Melon.

@colorpop Hmmm....don't like the sound of that at all.

So on the old hanbok issue I read the (now deleted) attempt at an apology from those who provided the dress to Twice stylist. It was an SS so had to rely on someone on Twitter translating it.
Anyway it appears in the statement from MisungHanbok that they were fully aware the piece was a Jisoo copy cat and that they knew it was a hot topic in the fashion world in Korea last year and that they had essentially recreated Balko's design for Jisoo. They also said that the stylist JYP sent didn't know this and that they were conflicted on whether or not to inform them, but chose not to. They also said they thought about reaching out to Balko after they sold the piece. Bla bla. They than go on to apologize to and tag those who worked on the Hanbok such as Balkothecat, etc but didn't apologize to JYP, Twice or Dahyun.

Read really scummy if the trans was accurate. Like what kind of company operates this way? Also how are Twice current stylist so out of touch they couldn't recognize the hanbok in question and ask about it? Or fucking pull out an iphone and check the MV in the store to be sure...literally ridiculous and now Misung latest post is trying to hype up her designs as a reword of the 'controversial Twice hanbok' which is so crazy to me that she hasn't said sorry and is now using the scandal as advertisement? What kind of scumbag?

Just a rant. But man am I pissed.

Melon changes on top of covid have pretty much destroyed the charts at the moment. Longevity records are also falling very other week when they would have never done in the old system. Dynamite will probably end up spending 35+ weeks in the top 10, which is madness.

Can I also say I'm getting annoyed of the word project. Just give a member/sub a proper release/OST/proper acting/tv gig etc. I'm happy it's something different but at the same time it's looking like a member dancing instead of singing like in most melody projects. I get these projects are the most cost-effective, least committal, least risk/reward etc. but come on.

If it's choreo to b-sides, even though years/months late to the point there's not much to make a difference with anymore I'll be a bit more on board but I don't get this approach. Really don't. They unwillingness to do things outside of the TWICE/JYPE umbrella.

According to this article, seems like there is no comeback planed for 1st half of 2021:

Sort of confirms for me that we'll get a Japanese single announcement at the end of the online concert.

Wouldn't be surprised if we end up with the same pattern as last year. Japanese --> Korean --> Japanese (comp) - reckon this will go as they surely can't throw another out, maybe a single instead --> Korean --> Japanese

I really hope they have genuine activities and not just these melody projects for the first half of the year, will be another wasted break if so. Fans acting like we've never seen Twice members cover different songs/concepts (they've been doing it at concerts and year end/award shows for years) and this is suddenly what is needed/new is too grating. You check the kpop news and see what other labels can get their groups and then compare that to Twice putting out covers as the 3rd biggest kpop group around nearly 6 years into their careers.

Also find this slightly surprising/odd. Wish it were possible for Twice to move over to somewhere more productive.

I hope TWICE will be allowed to spend this break building their gp relevance. It's going to be profitable both for their future careers and as a reminder about TWICE in general. But I'll enjoy those special "projects" anyway.

JYPE is really taking this "TWICE is a boy group in wigs" joke seriously lol. 2019 - 2021 is just a boy group management for TWICE.

I already have the feeling it's looking to be inevitably wasted doing content for a particular potion of the fandom only through melody projects/TTT.

That's all the members ever tease these days as well, melody projects/TTT. I don't watch TTT or particularly enjoy their choices of song/performances for melody projects so just a double whammy for me if this is all they do. After nearly 6 years I think I can say my interest is now slowly being grinded away and 6 months of just TTT/melody projects will probably be the nail in the coffin as they become like all my other favourites that I listen to on Spotify and that's that. The excitement/interest of looking forward to content outside of that is basically gone for me. The company will never change their approach.

For TTT I actually really enjoy this, I think it doesn't help a group grow but it does help keep the fandom solid during hiatus and I think they've had some really entertaining series so far. Really enjoy it to be honest.

I am not really a fan of the time off either but right now seeing the situation with Jeongyeon and not being fully sure if she's ready to fully promote again I can wait even if it's not ideal.
However there's no good reason during the first 2, possibly 3, quarters of this year that just because they have no group comeback certain members should be allowed to promote Twice in the media. Positions on TV or hosting open all the time in Korea and no reason some of those can't go to the girls, also OST positions, promote in Japan, etc can all be done right now to keep the brand boosted.

I think Republic is a bullshit company. They have 0 clue about Kpop, they have no idea how to manage groups or promote them, they have almost 0 presence in the Asian music market and they just seem to be signing groups or acts for no real reason.
Just like most UMG sub's. Look at Interscope, signed Somi when her music career is basically over barring a hail Marry. Their involvement in Kpop is odd to me and they don't seem to do anything with the acts they sign.
I pray their contract with Twice is ending soon, please.

Yeah nothing wrong with time-off but if they can film these melody projects they can promote to people outside of their fanbase/do different things. The great thing about a big group is they're good at different things and you can divide and conquer whilst giving members that need a break, a break. It's what SNSD used to do, EXO did it to an extent. You had the singers singing, variety stars on variety, trendy ones doing fashion stuff, the ones that want to act, acting etc. Even BP with their small group, Lisa in China, Jennie through fashion/CF's, Rose solo, Jisoo with her acting career. JYPE have 9 members all great at different things but nothing is ever done with it, everything has to be the same for everyone.

TTT is harmless and honestly 1/2 days of filming for weeks of content is smart, it's just the kind of content I don't care for which is also fine, I don't have to like everything. I just dislike that some fans use it to justify a lack of more meaningful/different content whenever it pops up so I get irritated with it more than anything else. I've actually read fans trying to argue that JYPE do put money/effort into Twice by citing things such as the number of cameras they need to use for TTT/the volume of TTT.

Edit: Also, it's very interesting how everything turned out for Got7. I don't think Twice would/can ever do what they did (personalities not strong enough/don't have the footing the Got7 members do individually) but as they would have signed their contracts around the same time I assume they'd have most of the same clauses.

JYP will never let them promote separately unfortunately. Even members of things like Gidle, Izone and OMG are getting solo promotions, cf's, songs, etc but JYP hasn't trended toward that at all for Twice.

Honestly seeing the stuff recently about Got7 has really exposed JYP Entertainment for me. Everything from deleting pictures with Jinyoung, shady posts or liking shady posts from the members or their families, etc.

Honestly now seeing Jackson Wang's story getting picked up by big media outlets including NME reading about how JYP Entertainment stopped him from promoting in Korea is so weird to me. Like it paints a picture of a strange personal problem from JYP rather than anything business related. Promoting in Korea would in no way negatively impact Jackson, Got7 or JYPE as a whole so who was the person who would let him promote everywhere else sans Korea? And what possible reason could be behind it?

Looking at his success in China and even charting on BB200 and getting a collab in the USA you can see without the company support this guy had potential to be a successful soloist in Korea too but JYP blocked it? Huh?
People also can't use the bullshit Suzy excuse because regardless Jackson was still promoting solo anyway and spent most of the last 2 years in China promoting so I would love for once the company to come out and let us know why they are so so anti solo promo in Korea even tho the rest of the idol industry is doing it?
