NMB48's latest release, "Hatsukoi shijou shugi," debuts at No. 1 on this week's Billboard Japan Hot 100, dated Nov. 4 to 10. The J-pop girl group's 22nd single sold 188,386 copies and led the tally fueled mainly by the physical sales metric (No. 1), while also coming in at No. 11 for look-ups and No. 15 for Twitter mentions.
After making its catalog available digitally last week, Arashi now has 22 songs charting on the Japan Hot 100. The five-man boy band's first-ever digital single called "Turning Up" -- which bowed at No. 10 on last week's chart in just five hours after its release -- soars to No. 2 this week after racking up 70,847 downloads (No. 1), 3,751,507 streams (No. 4), and 8,309,652 video views (No. 1). The song also came in at No. 7 for Twitter and No. 30 for radio airplay.
Fun fact: The total points "Turning Up" obtained last week in five hours for downloads and Twitter -- the two metrics the song entered the top 10 on -- was 3,663, while the total for all relevant metrics this week was 13,297. The sum is more than the total points for NMB48's "Hatsukoi shijou shugi" this week, meaning if Arashi had waited five hours to release "Turning Up" on Monday, it could have bowed at No. 1 this week.

Also, the six songs Arashi released on video platforms have racked up a total of 12,114,034 views, quickly closing in on such top-viewed artists as Official HIGE DANdism, Kenshi Yonezu and TWICE. The supergroup's impact on the streaming market has also been huge, boosting streams for the top 300 songs by about 10 percent.

Starting this week, Spotify's streaming data has been added to the chart measurement, and calculations based on estimated values have been replaced by actual figures, improving the accuracy and completeness of Billboard Japan's streaming tally.

Furthermore, in light of Spotify and other streaming services expected to provide separate data for paid and free streams beginning from the next chart year, starting this week, Billboard Japan has begun dividing paid and free streaming proportionally based on independent surveys, then giving them different weight in chart calculations. The figures shown in these weekly news updates are the total of paid and free streams.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups, audio streams from Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOX, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, RecMusic provided by Gfk Japan, dHits, Uta Pass and Spotify, plus karaoke data from Daiichikosho and XING.
