DJ Erick Morillo, who was best known for the 1993 house anthem I Like to Move It, has been found dead in his home in Florida.

Miami Beach police officers found the 49-year-old's body after responding to a 911 call.

The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Morillo was a three-time Best International DJ winner, and his hit song I Like to Move It featured prominently in the Madagascar animated film franchise.

The song, released under the pseudonym Reel 2 Real, reached number six on the Australian charts.

Morillo was due in court this week over a rape allegation, which he had denied.

He had been freed on a $US25,000 bond, and his next hearing was scheduled for Friday.

He had been accused of raping a woman while she slept at his house after a party.

Investigators said they identified Morillo's DNA from a rape kit.
