Sasaki Rikako (2001)
Sasaki Rikako is an active idol who first joined the entertainment industry in 2011. Her hometown is in Miyagi Prefecture in Japan, which was one of the areas devastated by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. Her family home was destroyed in that tragedy, and she became very withdrawn afterwards. Her father, wishing to cheer her up, entered her into the auditions for a small local idol group called SCK Girls because she loved to dance. She was accepted and quickly became the center of the unit.
Despite SCK Girls being a small, local production, she found national attention based on her unusual looks, heralded by the media as a visual combination of AKB48's then two top members, Maeda Atsuko and Ooshima Yuko. Encouraged by her early success, she auditioned to join Hello!Project in 2002 and was accepted as part of their trainee program in 2013. She also began working as a model for the tween magazine PichiLemon while training, which started her career as a model; she went on to be a featured model Seventeen when she reached high school.
The same year she started training, she was chosen to join the group S/mileage, which was then rebranded as ANGERME (pronounced, "ahn-ju-ru-mu"), with 2 other trainees as the 3rd generation of members. She was quickly made center for many songs because of her energetic dancing and strong visuals. She's not a particularly strong singer, but fans love her husky voice nevertheless.
Rikako is best known for her "gap," the difference between her looks and her personality. While she has a unique, stunning face and a model physique, her personality is quite childish and she is extremely animated and goofy. At live shows, fans love to see her look beautiful and dance gracefully during songs, only for her to make faces and start crying at the drop of a hat in the MCs.
