#1. KIM YOHAN - NO MORE
After Kim Yohan placed first on Produce X 101 which meant he would go on to debut as the center of X1, it did seem like a lot of his luck ran out. He sustained an injury right at the beginning of the group's debut which ruled him out from dancing on stage for a majority of their performances. X1 then disbanded in January following and Yohan’s debut drama "School 2020" got canned in April. However, despite all that, it does seem that things are finally looking up for him again. He is set to debut in OUI's highly anticipated boy group WEi and also released his first solo track "No More" which was produced by Zion.T. The track opens with a simple mid-tempo that's powered by an interesting instrumental loop which makes it feel almost as if it’s playing backward. The chorus injects a bit of funk guitar for a robust texture, while the second verse takes us into the more melodic territory after offering a quick rap break. One thing that's certain is that it'll be quite interesting to see whether WEi's sound is similar to that of "No More", or if they lean more towards the r&b sound that suits most of the group's members, including Yohan.

#2. BONBON GIRLS 303 - BONBON GIRLS
Bon Bon Girls 303 have finally made their highly anticipated debut following their participation and formation on the survival show, "Chuang2020" with many people interested to see just how their release compares to IQIYI's latest group THE9, who debuted just two weeks prior. "BonBon Girls" essentially plays into the more feminine characteristic that was established by their senior group "Rocket Girls 101", while at the same time bringing a very slight essence of girl crush to the song by establishing a dark & light concept through the music video which manages to stay tonally consistent and doesn't deviate either the concept or their newly established sound. Just like a lot of C-pop releases, "Bon Bon Girls" is no different in the way that they'll have you possibly disliking elements of their songs from the beginning only to love it in its entirety after the tenth listen, and will have you surprisingly singing along to yet another C-pop earworm!

#3. KARD - GUNSHOT
"Gunshot" is the latest single released by co-ed group KARD. The song follows a consistent musical path as some of the group's recent singles. The instrumental hinges on percussion, from trap hi-hats to thundering drums. It gains steam and energy during the track’s final third, adding a welcome intensity that drives the song home. However, the highlight around the song is undeniably the weight of the topics they’re addressing. While the song doesn’t necessarily offer much in the way of melody, both Jiwoo and Somin deliver forceful performances that add quite a bit of drama to the track, while BM and J.Seph bring in their imposing flows. The lyrics do are well thought out as they metaphorically liken how harsh and uncalled for words tend to hit as hard as a gunshot.

#4. BLACKPINK - ICE CREAM (WITH. SELENA GOMEZ)
Following the release of their hit song "How You Like That", the first single from their upcoming full album "The Album" (yes, that is the album's name) that is set to release in early October, BLACKPINK have teamed with American pop star Selena Gomez for the second single "Ice Cream". The song hinges on a simple nursery rhyme melody that weaves its way through the entire track without much variation. The verses and chorus are very much within the same ballpark, as is the sing-song hip-hop that punctuates them. The production’s youthful tone certainly contributes to the overall playground-chant approach. It doesn’t really feel like this song was dominated by either artist; in fact, Selena’s contributions were pretty seamless and sensical for the song’s structure. The music video is bright and colorful, a drastic change to their usual releases, and is a nice ode to the "pink" side of the group.

#5. CRAVITY - FLAME
CRAVITY debuted earlier this year with the title track "Break All The Rules" and followed that up with promotions of "Cloud 9", both songs from their debut mini-album. They're back now with their first comeback in the form of their second mini-album "Season 2. Hideout: The New Day We Step Into" and the title track "Flame". The track is bound along by heavy percussion and thundering synth accents. Backing vocals are used effectively to soften some of the instrumental’s blunt edges, but other than that this production. Unfortunately, the song does suffer from its inability to land an instantly-memorable punch, which brings me to my concern with how the group is managed by Starship. Comparing "Flame" with the other songs on the album makes it arguably the weakest of the bunch, with most people understandably thinking that some of the b-sides would have made for better singles, specifically "Believer" or "Ohh Ahh".

#6. JO1 - OH-EH-OH
Spawning from the first season Japan's Produce 101, JO1 made their debut earlier this year with the single album "Protostar" that went on to do really well commercially. This time, they're back with their second single album "Stargazer" and the lead single "Oh-Eh-Oh", which is co-produced by Pentagon’s Hui, and feels like a leap forward for JO1. The song is much more confident and focused in its sound, and that goes a long way toward painting JO1 as a convincing group of their own, rather than simply the product of a survival series. Hui manages to pull the driving electronic beat from tracks like "Energetic" & "Sha La La" and makes it even beefier, injecting a heavy dose of rock guitar that’s particularly dynamic as the song reaches its finale. The group delivers a searing performance that matches the intensity swirling around them.

#7. HEBE TIEN - A SONG FOR YOU
Hebe Tien is back with another great song that will be pulling at everyone's heartstrings where she promises to gift "A Song For You" as she confesses all of her worries in a single song. The song is a slow-tempo song that sounds like it would be right at home as the BGM to a coffee shop on a Sunday morning where, just like her, you wish to shed all of your worries from the previous week while you also have nowhere to hide as the week begins again. This release, just like her other releases, gives us an absolutely stunning rendition of her top-tier vocals while at the same time, telling us a wonderful story through the intricate lyrics of "A Song For You" while all set during a carfree summery themed music video that will have you reminiscing on days passed. Of days lazing around on the beach and bonfires at night. Overall, it's another solid release from, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful voices in the Taiwanese pop scene.

Hebe's A Song For You is just a love song

"I'll gift to you my soul, or a song" is the key line of this song, which basically says "I'll gift you this song, which contains my soul, I'll share with you my secrets. With you I have nothing to worry about, time goes by without my notice when I'm with you, I want to keep falling even deeper in love with you"
