#1. YOON DUJUN - LONELY NIGHT
Straight out of mandatory military service, Yoon Doojoon is back and ready to deliver with his solo debut "Lonely Night" that I've been listening to even when I really should have been sleeping. "Lonely Night" is an RnB influenced song where we see the idol playing with fire (and my heart at the same time) as the singer laments about being unable to sleep on such a "Lonely Night" with no one beside him to comfort him when he feels down. He'll surely have everyone telling him to stop staring into that whisky glass when he could be staring into your eyes and deep into your would instead. He likely wouldn't have been so lonely if only he took up that suggestion. The song itself also has some great atmospheric synth vocal effects, which give the track a soulful, dreamlike appeal. It's a pleasant song but probably needs more instances where the rhythm revs up and becomes funkier.

#2. KANG DANIEL - WAVES (FEAT. SIMON DOMINIC, JAMIE)
With his new pre-release single leading up to his next comeback, and steering clear of all the retro vibe songs that have been released throughout the last month or so, Kang Daniel has enlisted the help of rapper Simon Dominic and vocalist Jamie for a Latin-inspired dance track that fits in perfectly into the summer season. Rather than the song being a Kang Daniel solo featuring two other artists, "Waves" manages to divide its time fairly equally between the three performers. Daniel takes charge of the chorus and an opening rap, but Simon D and Jamie get their time to shine as well. They’re both great choices to contrast Daniel’s smooth vocals. Dominic fits especially well within this style, and it’s always nice to hear his flow. Clocking in at just under 3 minutes, "Waves" makes sure to not wear out its welcome, and doesn’t force itself to twist into any unnecessary breakdowns. The dancehall beat remains consistent throughout the track and is a welcome thud of percussion that’s hard not to groove along to.

#3. DAOKO - ANIMA
Daoko is back to bring us a new and interesting release in the form of her latest single, "Anima" off her album of the same name. Just when you thought that "Kaeritai" was trippy, she came back and slapped us in the face with a fish only to tell us that "Anima" is ten times more pretty and trippy at the same time. With the classic 8-bit technological influenced low-fi introduction to the possible innuendoes through signs and symbolism all culminating in a merging of cells into one giant cell and waving goodbye to you in a way that should be impossible if that cell were the real thing. She'll be leaving you wondering what the hell you watched while also asking "What is this and where can I get more of it?" once you see the full package that is "Anima".

#4. WAYV - BAD ALIVE (ENGLISH VER.)
WayV are back with a great, new edition of "Bad Alive". The song acts as the other side of the coin to the groups' main single from "Awaken the World", "Turn Back Time". The introduction to "Bad Alive". in and of itself, almost sounds like a rearranged version of "Turn Back Time", while also managing to distinguish itself from the groups' previous release. "Bad Alive", which is touted as an English release of the song while at the same time displaying the groups multi-faceted and multi-lingual identity as a Chinese pop group that speaks more languages than there are members of your own family. The English version of "Bad Alive" displays the groups' further states the groups' intentions and desires as they strive for success power and absolute wealth - being above that of the common man, while at the same time striving to have you with them every step along the way.

#5. SOYOU - GOTTA GO
The queen of collaborations is back, but with a new solo single in the form of "Gotta Go". The track shows off a drastic genre shift, challenging her with attitude-driven, percussive tropical pop. She makes sure to deliver on the energy as shown through her stage presence from the years of experience and the chanted background vocals are a great addition. However, as far as summer club tracks go, this falls right in the middle of the pack. It’s inoffensive but doesn’t exactly galvanize attention either. Overall, while this isn't necessarily gonna make any strides, it still delivers on its task as being a decent feel-good, summer track.

#6. ATEEZ - INCEPTION
Departing from their Treasure series which spanned across two years and 5 albums, ATEEZ is back with an entirely new album after what has been their longest hiatus yet. "Inception" catches the group in a moody, mysterious territory, delivering a track perched halfway between mid-tempo and dance. The verses propel on angsty hip-hop and electronic trap production, much like most of their past singles. The chorus is exciting and feels like an anthem due to quite a dramatic melody but, the accompanying percussion lets it down. There’s not enough emphasis in the lower end, and this blunts the refrain’s overall impact. In some ways, it’s an oddly small sound for a group who usually deliver such grandiose pomposity. It's still early days, and while this track doesn't quite size up to some of their previous hits from the Treasure series, I'm sure we can all rest assured that they'll find a way to make their latest series as memorable, if not more.

#7. APRIL - NOW OR NEVER
Following their well-deserved breakthrough with "Lalalilala", which stands as their highest-charting title track yet, the girls of April are back with a special summer album and the title track "Now Or Never". The song does its best to execute some summertime fun, and it definitely has its charms. April as a group are a great conduit for the sound, delivering some bright, cheerful vibes without going overboard on the cuteness. Of course, as with many great summer tracks, the deliverance is enhanced through the chorus, and this track makes sure it has a fairly strong one for itself, with a chorus that brings out a carnival-like brass to give the rhythm more layers.

#8. ERIC NAM - PARADISE
Eric is back with a new mini-album "The Other Side" led by the title track "Paradise" which is a tropical summer track with dancehall vibes. He offers an appealing vocal, as always, but unfortunately, the song doesn’t quite feel tailored to him in comparison to some of his previous releases. More interesting is the cascade of descending synths during the chorus. They sweep in with great texture, adding a spike of interest to a track that otherwise bops along without offence.

#9. JESSI - NUNU NANA
With a title that's "Nunu Nana", you can place a pretty hefty bet that Jessi’s new single doesn’t defy expectations from what you'd think when seeing that name. She doesn’t always get the respect she deserves as a vocalist, mainly due to the kind of music she releases. Not only is she technically solid, but she’s able to infuse her vocals with incredible character. That unique personality salvages much of this song. Her raspy tone during the song’s more vocal-heavy moments are a great touch. She really commands attention. Unfortunately, that blazing charisma isn't enough to save this what can only be explained to be a rather lifeless beat. That being said, I'd highly recommend a few b-sides from her latest album, specifically "Put it on ya" and "Numb".
