#1-BTS - LIFE GOES ON
On the 20th of November, BTS has returned to us with their 5th full-length album, BE, along with its title track, "Life Goes On." This marks the group's first major Korean comeback since May's Map of the Soul: 7—excluding August's release of "Dynamite"; it may possibly be one of the group's final releases as a full unit, as the group's older members Jin and Suga prepare to undertake state-sanctioned mandatory military service within the next few years. Over the past few months, BTS has spent their lives like the rest of us, cooped up at home—likely a much more fancy home of course—wondering whether Covid-19 will ever pass and reflecting on their lives. There is this realization that even the most mundane things that we might take for granted in our everyday lives, such as going to the cinema or having enough toilet paper, can be taken away from us in an instant. In Australia, for instance, we were prohibited from leaving our own state, and any overseas travel has been halted until a viable vaccine is found. Throughout this period, BTS spent their time keeping fans up-to-date with what they were working on in regards to their music and the production surrounding their album. Each of the members took on new roles that they had not previously done before during the preparation for this album. For example, V took on the visual director role and helped oversee the visual process of the album, leaving the BigHit visual director out of a job. "Life Goes On" is a light Alternative Hip-Hop track that expresses the group's feelings about the current situation throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and their deepest wishes; they hope that there will be a time where they can meet fans and do all the things they might have taken for granted all over again once the world returns back to normal, reassuring us that "Life Goes On."

#2- AESPA - BLACK MAMBA
The SM's new girl group Aespa has made their long-awaited debut with the single "Black Mamba"; it has been six years since the last girl group from the company so the expectations are high. The group has made their debut with a girl crush concept, aligning themselves with the sound of this particular generation of KPOP. We are brought into the song with a dirty and loud bassline that persists throughout the entire song before the vocals come in. The vocals add character and attitude to the verses, and during the pre-chorus, aided with subtle backing vocals, the song prepares us for an exciting chorus. The initial chorus is mostly instrumental with a repetition of "black mamba" and then followed by a catchy "aya ya ya ya ya ya." The song's highlight is definitely the bridge when, in true SM nature, vocals become the main centerpiece. Allowing their main vocalists to show us a glimpse of their abilities creates a nice shift from the song's in-your-face nature. The music video incorporates the group's ties to technology well, as the girls are shown using their phones or other devices—there is even a brief appearance of members Karina and Winter's ae-selves. However, as a caution to those who are afraid of snakes, there is a gigantic black mamba that appears frequently so be prepared! "Black Mamba" is definitely a grower and a great start to what we hope is an amazing discography. We are looking forward to the group's future releases!

#3-MOMOLAND - READY OR NOT
MOMOLAND has finally made their long-awaited comeback since December's "Thumbs Up" with the single "Ready or Not." The group collaborates with the legendary PSY for the new single and continues with their fun and upbeat sound. For this release, they leave behind the swing sound found in "Thumbs Up" and journey into one that is pure bubblegum pop. The song starts out pretty flat with a simple rapping, then a groovy bassline kicks in signaling that we are going into a more upbeat territory. Sure enough, the pre-chorus adds a lot of energy to the song, which later completely explodes in the chorus. Fueled by an addictive synth, catchy melody, and the members' unified vocals, the chorus is one of pop perfection. It does not stop there as the second part of it brings in a quirky brass, heightening the vibrance of the song. The other track on the single album is "Merry Go Round," which is a softer and lullaby-like song that puts the members' vocals on full display. The song is dedicated to their fans, Merry-Go-Round; through it, the members express that though they are physically apart from their fans, they are still there for them. MOMOLAND has created the perfect song to energize and warm up this cold season!

#4-SNH48 TEAM NII - FLOWER FESTIVAL
SNH48 Team NII has returned with "Flower Festival." This song was the group's entry in the "SNH48 Group 6th annual Best 50 Request Time" concert and was the winning group song following the conclusion of the competition. Sadly, just like most things during 2019, it also was also delayed due to Covid-19. As a result of this, Zhao Yue was unable to participate in the release of the music video due to her contractual obligations with WAJIJIWA's BonBon Girls 303. The music video itself was the group's reward for coming first in the competition and is, in my opinion, an aesthetic masterpiece! This song was initially released for the group's 7th Stage, to be performed alongside "Spring Day" (Chūnrì)—which member Lu Ting released a solo rendition of earlier this year—but has been rearranged into the current rendition found within this release. The song begins with a soft majestical piano melody, which is accompanied by a number of percussion instruments that help to assert the soft fairy-like nature of "Flower Festival." The opening verse sung by Lu Ting, who also acts as the center for this release, perfectly accompanies the light instrumental and further establishes the aim of the composition of this song, which is to give us a dreamlike and airy quality to the release while highlighting the group's stunning vocals in the process.

#5-GREG HSU - YESTERDAY NO MORE
Following the release of the hit 2019 drama, "Someday or One Day," Greg Hsu has had a great year, not only in his native country Taiwan but also in mainland China. The actor has bagged several awards for his dual performance in the drama, as well as gained a number of schedules in mainland China, both as an actor as well as a model and brand spokesperson. This week, the actor has returned with a brand new solo single, "Yesterday No More," along with its music video that is 10 minutes long! The video begins with the actor meeting a friend in a bar and discussing a book titled "Utopia," only for the pair to be joined by a woman who presumably has had a history with Hsu. Once the music and vocals begin, I know I am done for! The artist pours his heart out to the listeners, asking to be left alone and forgotten by his former lover as the sadness is just too much. Once Greg Hsu begins to sing, his voice, accompanied by a soft piano melody, ends every single bias I had against ballads from then onwards!

#6-WOODZ - BUMP BUMP
WOODZ is back again after five months with a brand new banger in the form of "BUMP BUMP." After previously finding success with "Love Me Harder" through its Blue Challenge on TikTok and Douyin, the former X1 and current UNIQ member—with the latter group being on indefinite hiatus—has recently celebrated his 5th anniversary since debut and has returned to us with a song about the push and pull of relationships with "BUMP BUMP." We begin our story with WOODZ, who is sick and tired of sweltering in the sun for his day job as a store mascot, decides to ditch his job the first chance he gets. WOODZ then begins his journey of wandering around the city with his friends with no fixed destination in mind, while he complains about the unfairness of love and how what begins as love can eventually turn into borderline abuse. As for the song itself, the instrumental is a nice mix of rock interestingly infused with trap elements to add an extra dimension and create a certain flair of uniqueness to the song. If there is one thing that I will always love about WOODZ's music, it would be the way the artist has been able to incorporate rock music into his title tracks so effectively that it will always keep you coming back for more and more!

#7-JOYCE CHU - OLD MAN, OLD WOMAN
Joyce Chu is a Malaysian-born Chinese singer-songwriter who rose to fame with her singles "Malaysia Chabor" and "I Miss You." The artist has recently returned with her single, "Old Man, Old Woman," which is a sweet track that essentially acts as a tribute to the everlasting love that her grandparents had for each other. The song was first performed during her 1st evaluation at CHUANG2020, which is the Chinese version of PRODUCE101. This song also counts as her first release following her participation in the show, where she placed 9th and failed to make it into the 7-member line-up of the final group. "Old Man, Old Woman" contains that signature sound of acoustic flair that can be seen throughout the artist's previous releases such as "I Miss You" while also blessing us with absolutely stunning lyrics that directly show just how beautiful the love between her grandparents was, that even death cannot separate the love they had. It is through this release that she declares all her love for the people who had had a hand in raising her and wishes that she can have a love story just as beautiful as theirs.

#8-PEARAIN - MOONLIGHT
One of the more overlooked Cpop groups in recent years would have to be BLACKACE, who has recently gained a small burst of attention through their brief stint on the Tencent idol competition survival show We Are Blazing. However, just like all other things related to the group, their management company has failed to capitalize on this fact and the group will likely fade into obscurity until their eventual disbandment. BLACKACE is one of the two groups that formed following the conclusion of the YOUKU survival show All For One, with the other being New Storm, where the member Pearain gained a spot in the group as their vocalist and center with over 30 million individual votes during the finale of All For One. This time, Pearain has come back as a soloist with "Moonlight" from his EP of the same name. The song is a soft rock release about heartbreak and desperation and features NATURE's Aroura as his co-star throughout the music video. It includes the addition of an electric guitar to further enhance the song as well as the use of voice sound effects to add an interesting quality to the song, highlighting the desperation and conflicting emotions that the artist feels about whether to stay or leave the person he loves. Overall, it is a great song that leaves me wishing that BLACKACE, and Pearain by extension, had a better company to get their name out there, as they have great songs, but YOUKU/Cool Young Entertainment just is not cutting it in the management sector.

#9- DRIPPIN - SHINE
Rookie boy group Drippin has released a music video for their b-side "Shine" from debut album Boyager! "Shine" serves as an amazing transition track, shifting the album from a groovier and high energy sound to something a lot more calm and subdued. It is a slower-paced poppy R&B track that is accompanied by a consistent piano melody and short whistles spread throughout the song. The verses' instrumental is bare-bones, relying solely on the piano melody and some percussion; but thanks to this, the focus is brought to the members' charismatic rapping and refreshing vocals. The chorus is where the song reaches its peak—here the listener is met with an extremely warm feeling as the main vocalist Hyeop serenades it with the lyrics, "The moonlight that shines on us is beautiful." The instrumental also picks up a lot of life during the chorus, which makes it even more enjoyable. The song briefly takes us to church during the bridge, switching to the members' singing in a choir-like style. In the music video, the boys are dressed as scouts as they explore, sing, dance, and plan for a voyage; it is a very cute video that suits the warm vibes of the song perfectly. Overall, "Shine" is a laidback feel-good song that can brighten up anyone's day!
