#1. STRAY KIDS - BACK DOOR
Stray Kids are back with their first repackaged album, and they are not messing around. "In Life" comes armed with eight new tracks as an extension to "Go Live" – and that’s even more than some groups’ full albums. Their new title track, "Back Door" continues to explore the group’s abrasive blend of hip-hop, EDM and pop, but this time the track infuses a different element - funky bass guitar. The verses pulse with a rhythmic drive, their addictive bassline underlining the attitude-infused style of hip-hop that characterizes most of the group’s tracks. It also makes fun use of sound effects, embracing a sense of playful cheesiness that has often been present in Stray Kids’ title tracks. The song stalls a bit for its moody bridge, but a rousing finale helps to end it on a high.

#2. ONER - STRUCK
ONER is back and better than ever as they prove themselves to yet again be gods among men when it comes to the production of their music. After blessing us with "Attack" and "Dazzle" the group is back with a brand new musical micro-film in the form of "STRUCK" which is essentially a compilation of a number of singles from the album spread out across a micro-film. The microfilm is split into three distinct storylines revolving around three characters portrayed by each of the group members. The first is that of the spy, with the titular character being portrayed by Pinkray. We see him navigate the world besting all of his opponents and staying one step ahead of his competitors. We then journey to the story of the killer, portrayed by Kwin, who brings with him all the trauma from his teenage years into his current profession as a killer, a specific scene that is overtly gruesome is the moment where he essentially causes a man to asphyxiate after covering his face in plaster. The final story is of Didi, who acts as The Hacker. It is during this final storyline that we get a cameo of Dreamcatcher's Handong. Initially, it is assumed that Didi and Handong's characters have a positive relationship but we later find out that they have a somewhat troublesome relationship due to the fact that Handong had presumably killed one of the dogs that he had given to her. We finally see him exact his revenge on her by creating an intentional gas leak. This micro-film is by no means for younger audiences, as it features multiple scenes that would make those with a weak heart cringe at the thought, especially during the scenes involving The Killer (at one point going as far as a semi-decapitation). As for the songs featured in this release, "Gamer", "Night", "Time", "Watch Me" & "Morse Outro", I found that not a single one of these songs was poorly produced as each and every one of these singles had a fantastic production quality about them, particularly "Gamer" & "Watch Me", the latter of which is the single displayed during the 'Hacker' section of the micro-film. It especially fits due to the backstabbing nature of that storyline, as the song is similarly sung in a tone that would make one suspicious of the intentions of the singer.

#3. ASTRO MOONBIN & SANHA - BAD IDEA
ASTRO's first sub-unit, consisting of duo Moonbin & Sanha, has made its debut with the mini-album "IN-OUT" and its title track "Bad Idea". The title track has a much fresher sound than expected following the teasers, hinges on Moonbin and Sanha’s surprisingly robust vocal blend and is driven by a generous dose of rhythm guitar that keeps the track moving at a clip. The instrumental has a refreshing fullness to it, augmented by filters that give the final product a retro feel. Things really heat up as we enter the pre-chorus which acts as an unexpected centrepiece before dropping into the slinkier, more subdued hook. Smartly, this is topped off by a second refrain that brings back a sense of momentum. However, the most pleasant surprise is its second verse, which forgoes unnecessary breakdowns in favour of an ultra-rhythmic arrangement that keeps the energy up.

#4. FROMIS_9 - FEEL GOOD (SECRET CODE)
fromis_9 have always been a group with heaps of potential and even though they release a lot of content on YouTube, their lack of comebacks is a worrying sign. That being said, the group is finally back, over 15 months since their last release "FUN!". This time, they've released their 3rd mini-album "My Little Society" and the title track "Feel Good (Secret Code)" which draws from many retro vibes from the past. While it doesn't completely lean towards the retro sounds, it does have an incredibly groovy, synth-laced instrumental that hits a disco-charged sweet spot. The instrumental is heavily indebted to the rhythm guitar, which gives it a sprightly spirit. The melodies are tight and effective all the way through, though the track is at its best when it cruises into its ebullient post-chorus chant. While the actual chorus is not quite as exciting, the entire track is so well constructed that it hardly matters. It bounces along with an amiable charm, and that’s more than enough to keep the groove going.

#5. DUAN AOJUAN X NINEONE - DANGEROUS GIRL
Duan Aojuan & NINEONE prove to us exactly why their collaboration "Dangerous Girl" was worth the wait as they bring to us the meeting of light and dark as both artists have recently found themselves going solo for the first time in a while. NINEONE was a participant in YOUTH WITH YOU 2 and as such did not release any solo content during that period, her most prominent recent release being May's "Ice Cube". Duan Aojuan recently graduated from Rocket Girls 101 and found herself truly on her own for the first time since her debut in 2018. This is Aojuan's second collaboration in a matter of weeks following her collaboration with JYP's Chinese boy group, BOYSTORY earlier this month. This song is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to both, its sound and concept. Where "元気满分" was an uplifting uptempo song, "Dangerous Girl" is anything but that as the latter is a trap-influenced technology-heavy song that plays into Dajuan & NINEONE's more mature sides while offering a contrast between light and dark which will leave you falling in love with NINEONE & Dajuan all over again as soloists, just as you did when they were a trainee & a Rocket Girls member respectively.

#6. PERFUME - TIME WARP
Perfume is back to bless us all with another quirky yet sweet song, "Time Warp". They show us exactly why all the best things come in three when they sing you a sweet song about travelling everywhere and anywhere throughout time. This song is a bright pop song with that familiar sound that is uniquely ubiquitous to Perfume. They spend the entirety of their time wandering around an even brighter set that will could even the colour-blind see all the colours of the rainbow again with just how bright and fluorescent it is! They spend their day wandering around the set and pose an interesting question to you: If you had the ability to create a "Time Warp", where exactly would you go, because the first place they want to go is their forgotten childhood memories. So if you want to have a fantastic time and to not be stuck in the ever-depressing present for even a single more second, make sure to join them on their journey together in the "Time Warp".

#7. TREASURE - I LOVE YOU
Following their long-awaited debut not too long ago, TREASURE has made their first comeback with the single album "The First Step: Chapter Two" and its title track "I Love You" which is a natural extension of debut single "Boy". The song does a good job of tricking the listener into thinking it’s one thing before pulling the carpet out from right under your feet. The first verse rushes forward with great energy, taking advantage of the group's solid vocalists, however, as we move into the chorus, the entire track flips on its heel, bludgeoning the listener with a rough assault of percussion. While this segment isn’t entirely unenjoyable on its own, it does feel quite jarring, at least in my opinion. It does work much better when placed at the tail end of the track's climactic chant. The song does have its moments though, including a breathless and exciting pre-chorus as well as some great verses from the rappers.

#8. VAV - MADE FOR TWO
VAV are back with a new mini-album "MADE FOR TWO" and its title track of the same name. The song inverts expectations throughout by delivering most of its driving percussion during the verses. In contrast, the chorus hangs in the air without much instrumentation to support it. The verses are anchored by a repetitive vocal line and the arrangement is a welcome diversion from the repetitive samples that make up a majority of other boy group instrumentals. These vocals add great warmth to the track’s insistent kick. Well-placed synth flourishes add interest, especially when they become more orchestral during the song's finale. The only thing really letting this down is that extra bit of energy that is constantly teased but never really happens.
