When 2020 dawned, the the fight of 2020 was expected to be BTS vs Drake, BTS vs Billie Eilish or BTS vs Adele.
However, the virus ended all of such fights before they began.
With the world under lockdown, trot came back from the grave and trot-balladists like Lim Youngung and Young-tak, plus a traditional chantist turned trottist Song Gain (Cho Eunshim)infested Korean Pop, with the blessing of the over-50 crowd who do not give a shit about KPop's World Conquest.
With BTS about to be swept under the rug, BTS' Suga obtained the support of a certain ultrareactionary, ultraisolationist and ultradomestic singer , who happens to be Senior to virtually all KPop Singers and also Song Gain, Im Youngung, etc, by the virtue of her Lifetime Achievement Award from MAMA on 2014.
IU now goes to fight the trottists on May 06, 2020, in what is probably her most important fight of all.
10 years ago, as the last hope of the balladists, traditionalists, etc, Lee Jieun went out to fight Sistar, Kara, Big Bang and DBSK all by herself. She beat 3 of 4 above.
9 years ago, she went out, all by herself, to defeat the mighty SNSD.
It is kind of ironical for BTS to seek the help of Lee Jieun, a non-KPopper, to defeat the trottists. However, apparently Suga thought the trottists were the bigger threat and Lee Jieun could be persuaded into existing in the KPop hierarchy, although her position would be at the top or at least near the top.
Now, Lee Jieun, a nonKPopper, is going to represent KPop against the torrent of trottists, most importantly Song Gain. Once Song Gain is defeated, the rest can be handled rather easily.
Of course, if even she cannot defeat the trottists, the game is over.
Lee Jieun vs Cho Eunshim. The fight for the decade. If Cho Eunshim wins, she dethrones Lee Jieun from the pedestal of KPop and ends it once for all.
If Lee Jieun wins, the trottists will retreat and Kpop can breathe easily.
