Produce X’ exploits the revenue, ‘Idols are beggars’ … CJ suspected of power abuse

In its October 4 report, MBC stated that when a song is released, 1 million won (approximately $837) is given to the agency of the contestant, with the contestant getting only tens of thousands of won (approximately tens of dollars) from that amount. In cases where songs do very well, CJ ENM receives the additional profits rather than sharing with the agency.

MBC reports that according to the contracts between CJ ENM, the “Produce X 101” contestants, and their agencies, 100,000 won (approximately $83.70) was given for each episode the contestant appeared in.

A “Produce X 101” trainee spoke to MBC about how in the contract, the trainee themselves was even lower on the scale of power than their agency, who was below CJ ENM. They said, “That’s why we had to bow down even more and had to do well, and we were worried that we’d get on their bad side so we were cautious.”

MBC reports, “Some entertainment sources have said that as there were many parts to it that were unfair, some agencies would instead ask for elimination at the last minute.”

MBC also spoke about violations of the rights of “Idol School” contestants during their stay in the dorms. The survival show began in the summer and lasted for about six months, but the contestants were only given uniforms appropriate for summer and reportedly had to wear them even when the weather turned cold.

An “Idol School” contestant said, “We’d say to each other, ‘This must be what it’s like in the military.’ Even though it was freezing out, we had to wear summer clothes for six months.”

MBC reports that the contestants were cut off from the outside world and only able to buy daily necessities once a month from a drug store that’s a CJ subsidiary. In addition, they were not given enough to eat.

The contestant said, “They let us go to [school] once or twice a month. Those girls would hide food in their hats or underwear and then share it with the others, and they’d eat it like they were beggars.”

1. [+225, -21] Notify the investigation results quickly. The groups will disband. End

2. [+97, -0] CJ even forced idols to buy daily necessities at their stores as the only way, crazy.

3. [+49, -22] No, I don’t know about anything else, but it’s July-September show at Idol School. Even if they filmed it before the broadcast, even if it started in March or May, how could they force idols to wear summer clothes?

4. [+28, -1] Too much

5. [+11, -0] Punish CJ for crushing the dreams of children’s dreams.

6. [+10, -0] I want to boycott all CJ products……

Wow. They suck. The idol's agencies aren't any better for going along with this. They need some fundamental changes to protect these artists from abuse at this scale.

Didn't another contestant from kstar also complain about not receiving the songs or the money taken away for the songs?

Mnet is pretty much a scammer in all their shows. But well people will keep on watching them anyway

At this point some regulatory agency should jump in because this is fucking inexcusable. Forcing kids to buy from their store only seems something plantation owners would do to their employees during the 18th and 19th.

Wow I thought the original songs on the show would benefit the contestants a lot, especially popular ones like Rumor and Never but here we are...
