it comes from ancient greek or maybe latin as well..
It comes from the word 'andros' or 'ανήρ' which means man...but the origin of 'man' is written in a way that means 'brave' and your name is the female version of it..it was depicted to show warriors and strong people...

I agree, it's really interesting. In most other languages the name is feminine, but in Italian "Andrea" is mostly masculine.
