I'm currently reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I kinda want to just swap over to reading Dune though before the new movie comes out next year. I read the beginning of the book a while ago and liked it but the length kinda intimidated me as a new reader OTL

After the new movie trailer dropped Im trying to get back into The (massive) Goldfinch, given I'd tabled it a while ago after the first few chapters. I hope it isn't 700 pages of not-worth-it.

And I think my favourite types of books would be anything gritty and reflective like Revolutionary Road or Rabbit, Run, i cant think of a definitive genre to classify them as. I like Coming-of-age/Young Adult fiction too.

Oh nice this is a my kind of thread.
So I am currently reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. This is a historical fiction and is a genre I have not tried yet. I have fervently read only YA fantasy in the past years. Now that I have exhausted that genre, I am venturing into some new things.

Does anyone have any suggestions for mystery/thriller? Lately I have also been reading Sidney Sheldon. I would like to read some psychological thrillers.

I've actually read Dune, there is a lot to digest in it, and the plot is relevant to our political situation in the world today. I wouldn't shy away from the length of it, it really is worth the read. I have yet to read any of the sequels though.

Yeah this has been on my to read list for a while, the only reason I haven't gone for it yet is that usually I get disappointed by book hyped up by Hollywood.

looking forward to reading again once final exams are over

I have one that is both historical fiction and mystery all in one. It's called An Officer and a Spy by Robert Harris, it's based on the Dreyfus Affair and
really brings to light the Anti Semitism of the time.

Guys don't be afraid to tell me your favourite books and read so that I can add them to the front post

I am currently reading the Gentleman Bastard Series by Scott Lynch, the first book was amazing, the plot was enticing and the characters were a lot of fun. The second so far is ok, it still has lovable characters, but it feels like two plots in one book for no reason and lighter in material, I guess to help the reader get over the serious tone book one took? Who knows? Apparently the next one is better, I hope this is true because the series did start off really well.

The last book I read was All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque, which is weird for me bc I’m a ho for fantasy and sci-fi. It was really good tho, painful at times.

Being a sci-fi nerd I’ll be reading a book from the Stargate franchise next, and after that I’ll hopefully finish the Lunar Chronicles with Winter by Marissa Meyer ?

How long did it take you? Im a pretty slow reader and I fear it wont be worth the time. I even read a bunch of reviews because of this and a lot of people said there was a lot of excess and unnecessary stuff in the book.

i think it took me like a week to read? im not sure if thats considered super fast or not, i guess thats an average of a little over 100 pages a day. its a pretty big book, but i didn't really feel like there was a bunch of padding/filler in terms of the overall story because it takes place over a span of years. i find donna tartt's prose really enjoyable and right up my alley, though, so that could totally just be my love for her writing talking. i know you're reading it for the movie, but maybe you'd be more into her other novel, the secret history? :)

Wow, a week is how long it took me to read a 300-page Margaret Atwood book...Relative to my reading pace, I'd say thats fast. I can only read max 20-30 pages in one sitting before I start losing focus. I'll trust your judgement and power through it.

I actually started reading The Secret History long before The Goldfinch, I havent finished it though. In fact, I started reading the Goldfinch because I liked The Secret History, the movie trailer only rekindled my interest in it. TSH is pretty lengthy for my standards too! As you can see I have a bad habit of abandoning books midway to the extent that I have to make it a mission/chore to finish them.

hey no judgement here! im the type of person who will actually power through a book i literally cant stand just to say i finished it and that i hated it and then complain about it. i really wish i could just drop a book if im not enjoying but i guess my brain just doesnt work that way lmao. ppl tend to either be a secret history person or a goldfinch person but i can say i enjoyed them equally, albeit maybe in different ways. what are the books you've read/liked before picking back up goldfinch??
