Watching hockey on the phone is a bad idea. On computer much better lol
LMAO yeah tracking the puck has to be hard esp since you're not too familiar with the game yet

If our bottom d pairings keep playing the way they did today, it could be a long season.. Matheson had just about as bad as a game at you can have. Our third line (jankowski, mccann and tanev) was humming though!

Yeah I know shit all about the game. There are like no fouls where you stop play and the team awarded the foul gets the continue the game from the committed area. It's an instant penalty for 2 minutes or 5. I just watch the game and just celebrate when they score haha.
Just found out my friend's favorite player is Letang haha
like games where u dont have to buy or pay a subscription free :heartpar:

Letang is very good. great offensive defenseman :p

Technically they do have fouls that stop the game and a faceoff is awarded. Use this image to learn xD

Offside - a player can't be inside of the opposing teams blue line before the puck has crossed the blue line. So this can get confusing because sometimes they blow the play dead right away. The rule to remember is that if someone is offside, no one can touch the puck past the blue line. So, if a team is carrying the puck into the zone, and someone crosses the blue line before the player with the puck enters the zone, they will blow the play offside. If there is already a player in the zone and someone passes the puck into the zone, as long as the guy doesn't touch it, they will let him skate back to the blue line. If he reestablishes himself past the blue line, they play is no longer offside. However, if he doesn't and he skates toward the puck for too long (regardless if he ever touches the puck) then the play will be blown dead.

On offside calls, the faceoff is in the tiny red dot just outside of the blue line. HOWEVER, if the officials deem the offside was deliberate, they can take the faceoff all the way back to your own goal in those giant red circles by your own net.

Icing - This is when a player behind the red line (in the middle) passes/shoots the puck forward and the puck crosses the red line (on the goal line) WITHOUT any player touching the puck on the way. If a player does this and the opposing team is the first to pass the red dot in the middle of the circles by the net, and icing is awarded. Play stops and the faceoff goes all the way to the other of the ice in the giant red circle net to the net.

Note that this can be negated in couple ways.

1. any player touching the puck including goalie
2. the ref deeming that the defender purposefully slowed down so as to not play the puck at an earlier time

Hand Pass - a player can not use their hand to bat the puck out of the air or slide the puck off the ground to another player UNLESS they are in their defending zone (inside of the blue line). They play will be stopped and a face off is awarded at the last place the puck was played on one of the faceoff dots.

this one could get confusing, but the more you watch, the more you will notice it.

NOTE: you can bat the puck down to yourself no matter where you are. as long as you don't catch the puck and close your hand on it (that's a penalty)

High Stick on the puck - You can't play the puck with your stick above the shoulders. If you do they will likely blow the whistle. This one is similar to offside in the fact that it's not always blown dead unless you or your own team has touched the puck. This happened multiple times last night

Net Off the moorings - this happened last night so you should have seen it. It's when the net gets knocked out of place, and it can't be put back easily. they will blow the puck dead and have a face off.

the faceoff position depends on too many things here. whether it's intentional by either team, which team accidentally did it. etc.

Puck over the glass - Anytime the puck goes over the glass, guess what? they have to stop play XD this is the same thing as soccer EXCEPT if you throw the puck over the glass, and you are in your defensive zone, you get a 2 minute penalty.

Also, you can't kick a puck or use your hand to guide the puck into the goal. that will result in a no goal foul. no penalty award, just a faceoff.

these are the major ones to look out for.

As far as penalties, they come in a few different varieties. Minor (2 mins) Double minor (4 Mins) major (5 mins, 10 mins or game misconduct)

hockey is very physical, so unlike soccer, you can get away with a lot of contact as long as you aren't using your hands, stick or feet to obstruct the opponent. and even this is ignored in board play. Players along the boards often get away with holding an opponent there bc it's not as obvious and not always a penalty.

here's a nice page with all the penalties.

I guess the more games I play the more I will understand lol
