Since the beginning
all I have is memories
of a time long since past
of a time long since forgotten
we're whole
yet we're also incomplete
as a nation
stationed in soil
one with the earth
we share this turf
with all backgrounds and nationalities
a rationality doesn't often comprehend
when one sees hate
and one brings debate
on an issue of pain and suffering
of blame and anguish
we can't forget the past
the good and the bad
but we shouldn't be sad
because not everyone is the same
as those that brought evil
and all the seething
the non stop bleeding
heart of a nation
in tears
I fear for her
I cry for her
I would give my life for her
this great land
I share with my fellow man
white and black
can get along
but we sometimes don't
when we remember the struggle
and the inner hurt
glued to us in mass
a sash around my waist
of gold, red and black
I am not black
but I respect all the same
and give thanks all the same
for their land is my permission
from them to me
and me to the sea
it will last the ages
our healing
our unity
even though some see it as never changing
I see it as a building on the rise
a rise getting higher and higher
with each individual acknowledged
of whom this country belongs
let's get along
and never bare fangs
and always sing
to the dream and a time
where life is equal
where life is brotherhood
now and forever
forever and always
