Speaking of mangas only.
Negima! Magister Negi Magi took me on a magical trip for a few years. Started as a typical harem bishounen, but it turned into an epic fantasy adventure. Idk if it's the nostalgia talking, but I loved every second of it.
Also enjoyed Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas a whole lot more than the first manga series. One of the times when a spin-off is better than the original material.
NANA for some good romantic drama. It's a shame it was never finished though.
Forgot about Claymore. Really good dark fantasy with sistery/motherly themes. The ending left me wanting a little bit, but the years it took to read were worth it.

Manga would be Kamisama Kiss for me. I never finished it though. Had a block with reading manga back then, but from what I did read is really an amazing read and the drawing style was so detailed and cute.

IdolIt's strange. I thought I'd always like it, but now I don't even keep up anymore with what's coming out.
There are always a few gems, but there's also lots of mediocre stuff you have to go through to find it.
