Mirin is the founding member of Dempagumi.inc, debuting with the formation of the group in 2008.
Mirin is a lifelong gamer and idol fan, having applied for several idol groups in the past before joining the performance cafe DearStage, where Dempagumi.inc was formed. In their breakout song, W.W.D, Mirin described being bullied all through school before becoming a shut-in due to the anxiety brought on by her surroundings.

Mirin is known for her ponkotsu character, meaning a character that is clumsy and unskilled at most everything. While the other members tease her, it is clear she is extremely loved by both the members and the fans for her devotion to the group and to being an idol.
On September 18, 2019, at a concert in Tokyo, Mirin announced to the audience for the first time that she was getting married. While she and the other members were nervous about what the fan response would be, as Japanese idols are generally expected to not even date, much less marry, she felt that it would be disingenuous to conceal her marriage from the fans when the group had built a culture of being very open and accepting with their fans.

The fan response was overwhelmingly positive, with Mirin even posting photos from her wedding ceremony on Twitter so that fans could see her in her wedding dress. Her husband is Asou Shuuichi, best known as the creator of the manga The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., who was a Dempagumi.inc fan and worked with them as artists for the theme songs to the anime version of Saiki.
Mirin is not the first idol to continue to be active while married, but on January 5, 2021, she did break barriers by announcing her first pregnancy and desire to continue doing idol activities as long as her health allowed her to. With the support of the other members, the staff members, and the fans, here's hoping Mirin continues her idol dreams for a long time! With Japanese idols being normally so restricted in their relationships, her becoming a mother and maintaining her status as an idol is a significant moment, and that's why she's our idol of the month for January.
