Everyone (still) hates SM

Another day, another round of BS from SM.

Here are the SM related topics

Wendy

I'm pretty sure everyone is aware by now of the fact that Wendy really hates SM at this point. Redveluv's have been concerned though about whether or not Wendy can actually leave SM.

It was discovered recently that SM currently has the copyrights/trademark's of Wendy's stage name in both English and Korean. She is also the only Red Velvet member to have their stage name trademarked, which many fans find strange.

The trademarks were filed in 2021 which means there's many years left before the trademarks are up and Wendy could get them herself.

This means if Wendy wanted to leave SM she would either have to promote under a different name or fight SM in court for the trademarks of her own name.

Some fans are saying there are legal issues with this and SM can't hold the trademarks to her name since it's her actual legal english name, they would need to give the trademarks to Wendy.
(I feel like there is some type of case to it? Because I remember YG tried to steal all the trademarks to Lisa's name prior to contract negotiations but Lisa was very obviously able to get them. There were issues with them trademarking her real legal name?)

RIIZE

The fight for justice for Seunghan never stops.

With all of the new SM town merch dropping (oversea) kpop fans have been very VERY angered at the RIIZE merch.

RIIZE debuted in 2023 with Get A Guitar. Seunghan went on hiatus after their debut and RIIZE had their first comeback as 6 members/without Seunghan in January 2024 with Love 119.

For the SM Town merch the groups had their debut date/years on it and instead of Riize being credited as 2023 as their debut date, 2024 was credited as their debut date instead.

Fans are extremely outraged that not only is SM trying to erase the history of Seungchan in the group, but they are also going as far as to erase a whole year of activities from them to erase Seunghan.

Based on the merch it seems the 2024 was deliberate and not a typo, but if enough people get angry i'm sure SM is going to say it was just a typo

Jonghyun's Songs

Since this is a big SM anniversary SM announced that this SM town will have special song covers.
So far the song covers are:

Aespa: f(x) - Rum Pum Pum Pum
NCT DREAM: EXO - Love Me Right
Red Velvet: Girls Generation - Run Devil Run
WayV: Shinee - Juliette
NCT Wish: Super Junior - Miracle
NCT 127: Hyun Jin Young - You In Blurred Memories
EXO: H.O.T Git It Up!
Super Junior: Shinhwa - I Pray 4 U
RIIZE: TVXQ - Hug
TVXQ : Red Velvet - Psycho

It was also announced that someone would be doing a song cover of one of Jonghyun's songs. It has not been announced who will be singing it or what song it will be, but right now it is assumed Boa will be singing the song.

Many Shawols (and kpop fans in general) are having issues with this because right now all of Jonghyun's song profits go to the Shiny Foundation. If SM is doing a cover of Jonghyun's songs, then SM is taking the profit from it instead. Some kpop fans are arguing that even if SM does a cover a portion of the profits should still be going to the Shiny Foundation so it should be fine, but many people are still having issues that SM are trying to profit off his work at all.

Many fans have been expressing their happiness at Boa possibly being the one to sing the song cover though since they know she will be able to do his songs justice.

Dreamcatcher

I actually have 2 bits of Dreamcatcher news today!

Logo Controversy

The main thing dreamcatcher has been trending on twitter for is a controversy with their logo.
I won't go too into the history of the controversy because i'm sure lots of you know it already, but when Dreamcatcher debuted a lot of oversea fans were angered at their group name and logo of a dreamcatcher because they viewed it as being cultural appropriation and insensitive.

I remember back in the day they did issue an apology and although they couldn't change their group name at that point, they did promise to stop using the dreamcatcher symbol (they did not keep their word on this )

For a few short comebacks/activities Dreamcatcher used a different logo which many fans were happy about, but with this most recent winter comeback they went back to using a dreamcatcher again and fans are extremely let down that the group/company went back on their promise.

As of right now no statement/apology has been issued on the matter.

Mini Catcher

Character mascots have been all the rage in kpop lately! Almost every group has one and Dreamcatcher is jumping on the trend!

The group announced their own character mascots called Mini Catcher which will be released on 1/13!

I've started to collect character mascot dolls for all my favorite idols (expect a post on it at some point) and Jiu's mascot is a pink bunny with hearts and I want it I can display it next to my pink Jiu body spray. Praying they won't be too expensive and/or will be available internationally.

ZB1 Yujin
*Slight Trigger Warning*
Fans have been a bit disturbed by a recent hospital experience ZB1's Yujin had.

Yujin shared during a live that he had to get a shot in his butt while in the hospital (these are apparently really common in South Korea when you are sick???)

He said he felt pretty embarrassed/uncomfortable because the nurse who was giving him his shot in his butt was going on about how her daughter was a fan of his, though it turned out that the nurse herself was a fan of him.

(Something I also want to shout out is that Yujin is a 2007-liner and only 17 years old and this was a fully adult female nurse going on about how she's a fan while giving him a shot in his butt).

Some kpop fans are saying the nurse was just doing her job and there's nothing disturbing about this situation, though other fans are saying the nurse was being inappropriate.
(I know if I was a kpop idol, who is a minor on top of everything, I sure AF would not want the person i'm exposing my bare ass to be going on about how they're my fan. That's traumatizing )

I'm not sure if Yujin would be able to report this to the hospital for misconduct, but I hope his company will do something about this situation.

Recent Debuts

I also wanted to shout out two kpop debuts that have been making a buzz on twitter!

XLov
The first debut is XLov's debut with the song I'mma Be!
People are loving their androgynous image and impressive dance moves!
The group consists of 4 members: Wumuti (99-liner, leader, from China), Rui (00-liner, from Taiwan), Hyun (02-liner, from South Korea), and Haru (06-liner, from Japan). All members except for Hyun were previously on survival shows and Wumuti was also a former member of the Chinese group SWIN.



Hanhee
The second recent debut trending on twitter is of the solo debut of singer Hanhee!
Hanhee was a former member of the group YOURS and a predebut member of Witchers but left the group shortly before debut.
She recently made her solo debut with the self produced song Mayo and people have been loving the dreamy tone of it!

Her debut song Mayo is 18+ with a lot of innuendos, so I will be putting the music video under spoiler

Since we've all had a love for dunkin lately, today's QOTD is what is your go-to Dunkin order?

If it's winter I order a hot chocolate with caramel and free hashbrowns, and if it's summer I am ordering the frozen with hot chocolate with caramel and free hashbrowns. (I cannot walk into a dunkin and leave without hashbrowns. It's not legal)
I like switching up the seasonal syrups though! The christmas sugar cookie and valentines day red velvet syrup always slaps

I am also switching up the color scheme for this so please let me know if the blue color I am using is not dark enough.

Not sure why xD Things just get spread quickly. There have been mentions of in the past by Dua Lipa herself that she wanted to work with LSF, but that's all.
