﹒⊹ ʚ Howdy Howdy ɞ ⊹﹒
It feels like it's been a hot minute since I've made one of these. I don't have too much news for us? But here is some stuff:
— — — — ꒰ ʚ ⚘ ɞ ꒱ — — — —
Yulhee Acting Debut
Yulhee has announced that she will be making a small acting debut!
She will be the leading actor in a web shorts drama "My Partner Is A Devil"
The drama appears to be about a woman who makes a contract with the devil to get revenge on her fiance who ruined her life.
The web drama will release on an app called "Alwayz" in March.
Sangyeon Military Enlistment
This news just dropped as I was typing this.
The Boyz's Sangyeon has been accepted into the military band. He will be leaving on March 17th.
All of The Boyz member's except Jacob and Kevin are required to do military service, so if each member goes in their respective year we will not get the full group back until 2032 or 2033
I am crying right now please give me a hug.
EXO's Future
EXO's DO has recently talked about the group's future in a press release for his new drama.
I remember reading before that we were supposed to expect a comeback once Kai comes back? Though DO has clarified they are working on a comeback but not to expect anything this year.
Robert Pattinson Aegyo
Robert Pattinson has been trending online with his recent promotions in Korea for his new movie Mickey 17 directed by Bong Joon Ho, the director of parasite.
People all over the world are laughing at his attempts at Aegyo and him trying out other popular Korean culture activities such as a color analysis:
Unrelated, but I also wanted to shout out here that I just realized while typing this that i've been misreading Aegyo as Ageyo my whole life
Beomhan Threatens US Tour
Back in November Beomhan went on a serious spiral online that resulted in him insulting pretty much everyone and becoming one of the most hated people by Kpop twitter, along with becoming sort of the laughing stock of Kpop twitter as well. (Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I don't know how else to put it).
If you search his name here you can see his controversies that I covered back then.
Everyone thought Beomhan would be stepping away from the kpop and music industry after what happened, but apparently we are very VERY wrong.
Beomhan announced yesterday that he will be going on a US Tour from the end of march until April. The tour currently has four stops.
Kpop twitter is currently really confused how he is going on tour considering he legit has one singular song.
Additionally, he is also selling fancall tickets for $50 with the fan calls being held January 31st - February 2nd.
82 Major Light Stick
This past year has been the year of interesting light sticks and this train of interesting designs certainly doesn't seem to be ending soon.
Kpop Group 82 Major has unveiled it's official light stick and people have been talking about it online.
People online are currently talking about how their light stick heavily resembles a tampon and/or pregnancy test.
Mingyu Snickers
I feel like it's kind of rare that we see idols being a brand ambassador for a food product, but today Seventeen's Mingyu has been announced as the new face of the Snickers candy bar in Korea!
Congrats Mingyu! This seems like such a fun brand ambassadorship.
Babymonster and Gummy
To end this off I wanted to share this performance of Babymonster an Gummy that has been trending on social media.
Gummy's vocals in particular have been trending online and getting praised, specifically her singing in the song Seven. People have been really moved by her strong vocals in the song and the emotion she put into it. It's even sort have become a tiktok meme? (But not in a bad way?)
Here is my attempt at clipping the section from the video:
A lot of newer Kpop fans have never heard of Gummy so many people are happy these newer fans are recognizing and praising her vocals!
Happy Birthday
Today we are wishing a Happy Birthday to ISA from StayC!
Happy Birthday ISA! May you have a wonderful birthday and a year with many good things ahead of you!
— — — ꒰ ʚ ⚘ ɞ ꒱ — — —
With Mingyyu's new snickers sponsorship, today's QOTD is:
What is your favorite candy?
In terms of chocolate candy my favorites are a tie between two seasonal candies: Hot Cocoa Hersey Kisses and Cadbury easter mini eggs. I remember one year my family surprised me with a BJ's (a chain store similar to costco) size bag of Cadbury mini eggs and I was so happy I could cry .
For fruity candy, I am a sucker for Hi Chews or any Japanese gummy candy. Acai Hi Chews are the best.
I feel like I had more news to share? But my mind is blanking. If I remember I'll just throw it into the next news roundup.

idol food cfs used to be more common back in the day I think before the shift went so heavily towards luxury stuff...I know Pocari Sweat (some kind of sports water drink?) was a really famous one and it was a ~big deal~ for those who worked with them
then of course, we have JooE's all-timer:

SAGWA TOK TOK TOK TROPICANA SPARKLINGGG
I was just going though old Momoland content!
One of my biggest complaints for idols recently is the luxury trend. I just feel like they would get so much more out of smaller brands. I was happy to see the Pepero New Jeans I found. I feel like it just made more sense to do ads for items fans could actually buy. There are STILL hair dyes with SNSD and Blackpink on them.

Pregnancy test lightstick. Never thought I'd see the day that happens sksk
As for candy, we had a candy here that went by a certain derogatory term (that I don't want to repeat) for Native Americans here until recently.Same name as that one US football team They now go by red rippers. They were pretty nice. Other than that, can't go wrong with HI-CHEW. I liked the peach variant the most. Though you can never find that flavor anymore

The Pocari sweat thing is still around! I don’t think anyone talks about it anymore. (Overseas at least.)
I know Chuu from Loona use to be the face of Pocari Sweat for awhile (I remember watching her Chuu vlogs about it) and up until recently it was Illit’s Wonhee!
I know Illit lost the Pocari Sweat deal recently and there was a big battle with Tokki’s about it on Twitter because Tokki’s were saying NJ’s were being hit hard with this drama and claiming MHJ’s lawsuits didn’t affect Illit and LSF at all? And then it turns out Illit lost like 2 brand deals cause of MHJ, one of which was the Pocari sweat one, and all hell broke loose fighting on Twitter
I’ve noticed that over the years most food brands only seem to work with actors/television personalities now instead of Kpop idols. One of my biggest complaints for idols recently is the luxury trend. In terms of Kpop brands working with smaller brands, off the top of my head I can only think of:
- Best girl Wonyoung is still the face of a popular but not prestige clothing brand in Korea! (Rola Rola I think? They are too expensive for me to buy, but they aren’t a luxury brand.)
- A lot of Korean makeup and skincare companies still work with Kpop idols. I literally saw a member of seventeen on Ads for The Face Shop while running to miniso for some stuff yesterday I know Stray Kids worked with a skincare brand, Hyunjae from TBZ is the face of Tirtir, New from TBZ works with Haru Wonder, and I think Aespa is still the face of Clio?
- Key from Shinee is also the face of Persil laundry detergent? And also McDonald’s (I still need Onew to be the face of KFC.)
We have tons of the peach ones in the US! I keep the peaches and cream flavor in my purse actuallyI liked the peach variant the most. Though you can never find that flavor anymore

I think I phrased my comment incorrectly. My point was that I just see a greater pay-off for affordable brands, such as IU with Soju. There is often a lot of weight put into luxury brands, but I think the bigger distribution seems more profitable and leads to more exposure. It often feels like fans and companies really want those luxury brands, but a brand like Oreo will always be worth more to me.I’ve noticed that over the years most food brands only seem to work with actors/television personalities now instead of Kpop idols.

For brands themselves, I feel like the reach of actors and personalities are so widespread, so I can't blame them.
That was just my two cents.

I understand! I was just trying to say sometimes non-luxury brand collabs to rarely exist (I feel like key and his laundry detergent is the only one we've really had recently other than this Snickers and Mingyu one? )I think I phrased my comment incorrectly. I hate this overrun of luxury brands in the kpop world. Back in the day I use to help someone run one of those kpop closet accounts (I got bullied out of it by a really REALLY crazy army ) and it was such a huge difference back in the day seeing idols wear so many brands. Korean Fashion's popularity overseas really boomed back in this time as well because so many smaller brands were getting noticed and there were trends and variety. Now in days I feel like the Kfashion industry overseas is dead because Idols only wear luxury brands now
I remember when it was a big deal when your favorite group had a debut stage wearing luxury outfits (My biggest memory is CLC wearing Versace for the first time in Black Dress). Now if you aren't wearing only luxury brands you are dead meat
I don't like snickers, but I'm really happy for Mingyu. We need more FUN kpop sponsorships.
