I have happy news to share this morning.

As a follow up to this post that I made, the first hearing impaired Kpop Group Big O!cean debuted today!

Today, April 20th, is also People with Disabilities day in South Korea.

Their debut is a song called Glow, a remake of H.O.T's Hope from 1998.

They don't seem to have a MV for their song, but they do have a debut stage:

They shared in an Interview that during their performances they will be utilizing a vibration beat metronome (I believe via a wristwatch they wear), a light metronome, and have the audience participate by using their cell phones as a metronome as well to keep the beat during stages.

It also appears their company has partnered/will be partnering with some tech company to use AI to help the members hit high notes (?)

It seems their company Parastar Ent, tried to host a wide variety of talents with disabilities such as actors and models, but when COVID hitting they lost a lot of jobs and some talents could not even make their debut. Their idea to form the idol group came out as a result of this.

From their interview, some of the hopes they said they have for the future is to establish a museum to help educate people about disabilities, to write and compose their own songs, to make a music video, and to one day have a nice company building. They also wish to encourage other people with disabilities to follow their dreams.

Some background info on the members:

(Left to right: Jiseok, Chaenyeon, Hyunjin)

- Chaenyeon, 26 (98 Liner), use to work as an audiologist in a hospital to help train and rehabilitate people with hearing loss. He suffered hearing loss at 11 due to a high fever.

- Jiseok, 25 (99 Liner), wanted to go to college for music but couldn't find any schools that had special admissions for people with disabilities. He instead got certified to become a barista and was working as one before joining the group. He's had hearing loss since birth (congenitally hearing loss).

- I was a bit confused reading HyunJin's (21, 03 Liner) part, but of what I understand he plays piano and he did got to college for music and got recruited for the group by a model in a wheelchair after being invited to appear on the TV Show. He seem's pretty passionate about piano and is interested in music composition. He got hearing loss at the age of 3 due to a high fever.

Hyunjin had cochlear implant surgery and I believe the other 2 wear hearing aids.

It appears they did a dance challenge with RIIZE? So they have been gaining some buzz from that:

Congrats to them on their debut! I hope they have a successful future!

Well good for them! I wish them the best. They've got pretty good voices, and can dance, so they're off to a good start.

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised! I think Jiseok is pretty good a rapping!

I couldn't have sworn they said in a past interview they were going to debut with more members but I guess not? I wonder what happened?
