So after approximately half a decade since the glam scandal and not excepting female trainees and debuting and acquiring bg after bg, Bighit will finally associate it's name with not one but two new girl groups. The first being the PLUS girl group collaboration with source music to debut in 2021 and the second being a girl group formed via a second girls season of iland, and managed by Belift, likely debuting in 2022. Both these groups have a lot of hype and mystery surrounding them and with that comes theorizing. And with the new year fast approaching and rumors going around that the girls will be announced alongside/shortly after Gfriend's comeback I thought we might as well get in our last chance to be right or wrong.
The Plus GG
While this is a collaboration and not solely a bighit group, Bang PD has already stated that this group will be considered as bighit's ngg for this generation so I will look at it like that as well. During the years that Bighit didn't have any non-bts groups the general assumption among fans was that if a bh gg were to happen it would be very edgy and hiphip based like bts was at the time. However, given the direction of bts's recent releases and txt it's safe to assume that bh aren't the super gritty company they were back in 2014. The imagery of the PLUS audition materials further confirms this and while you could argue that's not related to the concept, given the amount of time Min Hee Jin has been working for BH solely on this gg I doubt that's the case.
Many people have predicted that the group would be 5 based on this teaser in particular and I think that is correct. 6 members would overlap with Gfriend, 4 would give them Glam ptsd, 7 would be set up as being a female bts, and I don't see bh debuting a group any bigger than 7. Plus they could market them alongside TXT in a similar way to how f(x) and Shinee were. I've seen people saying that the group will be bigger because Bang PD said that they 'would come from diverse backgrounds and speak many different languages' but honestly that's just a thing all companies say nowadays. I mean, it's true of txt just bc of Hueningkai. I think the lineup will be somewhat like this
1. Source Music trained main vocal
2. Source Music trained dancer
3. Bighit trained rapper
4. Bighit breathy style lead vocal
5. Plus cast foreign/mixed member, stan attractor, dancer (most ppl who went say they were p much only looking at dancers).
I think the plus audition was mostly for younger trainees to trade/save for later, and a secret 1st round of the belift auditions. If they happened to find a stan attractor type who could learn choreo quickly for debut that's just a bonus. BH had been secretly casting female trainees since 2018 and Source has loads coming and going and I doubt they'd announce a gg at all unless they had a few trainees in mind already.
As for concept I already mentioned they wouldn't be super edgy but I also don't think they'll be super cutesy/pure. Given that a lot of the company stan types who are anticipating them are teen girls and international fans who don't tend to be into that concept. They'll also want to distinguish themselves from Gfriend. I see their music as being girly and fun rather than cute basically Blackpink's pink concept (aiiyl, ice cream, lsg), Oh My Girl's Nonstop, + F(x) are the vibes I'm seeing. Basically just some good clean pop music with likely too much autotune that'll appeal to both domestic and international markets: a.k.a Bighit's recent formula. I see this group as BH's perfect in between to Itzy, Blackpink, and now Aespa. Not as experimental as Itzy/Aespa* but not as formulaic as Blackpink + bh storyline and lyrical elements.
*ik we haven't heard Aespa's songs yet but their very concept is enough to put them on the same level as Itzy weirdness wise.
2. The Iland Girls
Whereas the plus group will be bh's attempt at the bp/itzy market I think this group will be the twice/snsd. I have a strong feeling that they'll change the final number of the group from 7 to 9 to match this as well. 7 has proven to be a magic number for bgs and 9 is it's gg equivalent and with the gap in the market rn I don't think BH will be able to resist trying the formula themselves. Assuming YG doesn't beat them to the punch which is unlikely. I think the show will have trainees from across Bighit labels and is more likely to include famous trainees or ex-idols since it is basically mnet's soft produce-reboot as opposed to plus which I think will be all new. I also think this show will be where a lot of the foreign trainees show up and the final group will likely have around 2-4. Concept wise I think they'll do a variety of concepts as most survival show groups do, but follow the cutesy/pure nation's gg formula for the first few years.

I agree with the amount of members the gg will have and I also don’t think they would do hip hop genre
Iland S1 had no rappers so it would be interesting to see if S2 will be similar

I wish them success in the future whichever way they go. With Source's assistance it should be okay.

J-Pop/K-Pop Silent LurkerI'm on the watch for the new girl group from Big Hit + Source Music. I read some rumors about the possible members of this group.
Due to my experience on watching I-LAND S1, I wish that the final members for I-LAND S2 will be more interesting. I may not watch this upcoming I-LAND season but I will wait for the final episode.

technically it hasn't been 100% confirmed but they teased it at the end of the first iland and auditions have already wrapped up I believe. It was also announced that Belift would debut 2 groups in the 2020-2022 time frame, the first Enhypen the other is assumed to be the girls. Trainees will probably be 50% cast via audition and the other 50% from source, bighit, pledis, etc.Intresting information i didn't know that at all. yeah there are several source trainees that we still know the names of but have very limited info on them: Lee Danbi, Ahn Nayoung, Jung Yoojin, etc. but who knows if any will get in as source is notoriously competitive when it comes to female trainees. As for Bighit there are rumors like former SS trainee Kim Yuri, Zhou Yuqi, Kang Yeji, and ofc ppl are rumoring every ex-trainee under the sun but those have 0 evidence.I'm on the watch for the new girl group from Big Hit + Source Music. Big Hit + Source's NGG would probably the next big NGG everyone would be expecting, with Starship's NGG. So yes I'm curious and waiting for them. I'd like to see what this Gen can show us.

Ok so I just thought I'd add that it is likely we'll have not 2 but 3 bh ggs this generation! This summer bh japan held auditions for girls born '01 or later and they later confirmed that it was unrelated to PLUS or belift ggs. Now that bh are poised to debut their first jpop group in 2021 featuring (a bg), it is very likely that they have a jpop gg in the works as well for 2022-2023.
