After charting for 27 weeks, Official HIGE DANdism's "Pretender" rules the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for the first time on the latest tally, dated Oct. 14 to 20.
The band performed live on the popular program Music Station during the chart week, which boosted figures for the streaming favorite by about 500,000 streams from last week's 5,453,313 to this week's 5,933,753 times. Downloads also increased by about 8,000 units from 7,892 to 15,841 units, and video views rose by about 350,000 views from 4,667,860 to 5,023,421 views this week.
The four-member piano-pop band's new song "Yesterday" follows at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100, with figures also increasing in the same three categories. The band released its first major-label album, called Traveler, earlier this month, and eight songs entered the Japan Hot 100 last week, while 16 entered the top 100 of the streaming list.
ONE N' ONLY's "Category" led physical sales this week with 59,868 copies sold, but the song lacked strength in the other metrics -- No. 50 for Twitter mentions, No. 66 for look-ups, and No. 80 for radio airplay -- resulting in a No. 5 debut on the Japan Hot 100.
Meanwhile, UVERworld's "ROB THE FRONTIER" came in at No. 4 for physical sales with 24,227 copies sold, and also fared reasonably well in the other metrics -- No. 5 for look-ups, No. 10 for downloads, No. 27 for Twitter, No. 41 for streaming, and No. 56 for radio -- to debut at No. 6 on the list.
Kenshi Yonezu's "Uma to Shika" -- written as the theme song to a recent rugby-themed drama series -- rises a notch to No. 3. With the Rugby World Cup currently going on in Japan and the hosting team making it to the quarterfinals for the first time ever, the song has become somewhat of an anthem for rugby itself, being played in the background during TV broadcasts of the actual World Cup games. Physical sales for the song increased from 4,220 to 4,439 copies, and downloads continue to do well at 31,048 from last week's 28,831 units.
Likewise, Japanese rock duo B'z has a song called "Tsuwamono, Hashiru," which is being aired in a TV commercial featuring members of the Japan rugby team. This track has been steadily climbing the Japan Hot 100, from No. 84 two weeks ago to No. 28 last week, and to No. 15 on the latest tally. Downloads for both songs are reflecting the surging interest in rugby following team Japan's epic winning streak up to the quarterfinals on Sunday (Oct. 20).
The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups and audio streams from Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOX, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, RecMusic provided by Gfk Japan, as well as dHits and Uta Pass, and karaoke data from Daiichikosho and XING.
