Kenshi-Yonezu-2019-billboard-1548.jpg

This week's Billboard Japan Hot 100 saw two of today's biggest J-pop acts battling it out for the No. 1 spot, with Arashi's "BRAVE" and Kenshi Yonezu's "Uma to Shika" both going on sale during the chart week, dated Sept. 9 to 15.

Yonezu came out on top, overcoming a difference of 277,325 CDs by excelling in the other metrics of the chart's measurement and racking up points overall. The 28-year-old hitmaker leads the chart again for the first time since "Spirits of the Sea" ruled in June.

"Uma to Shika" actually performed well by average standards in the physical sales department as well, selling 431,270 copies -- more than double the first-week figures for Yonezu's mega-hit song "Lemon" (205,169). But the beloved five-man Johnny's boy band also nearly doubled first-week sales with 708,595 copies for "BRAVE" (the group's previous single "Kimi no Uta" sold 382,812 copies) and came in at No. 1 for the metric.

Meanwhile, Yonezu's latest single led radio airplay, downloads and look-ups this week, while also faring well in Twitter mentions (No. 4) and video views (No. 2). "BRAVE" came in at No. 2 for look-ups, No. 3 for Twitter, and No. 56 for radio airplay -- not enough to hold the multi-talented artist at bay.

Yonezu tops downloads for the fifth consecutive week, adding about 10,000 units to last week's figures for a total of 440,597 units to date. This is already more than his previous single, "Spirits of the Sea," and could keep "Uma to Shika" coasting along at the top of the chart if the trend continues.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups and audio streams from Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOX, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, RecMusic provided by Gfk Japan, as well as dHits and Uta Pass, and karaoke data from Daiichikosho and XING.

It'll be between Uma to Shika and Lemon for #1 in the yearly chart, but in the end it will most likely still be Lemon.
Lemon is still in the top 15 since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, "Uma to Shika" has just been released for one week. So it's certainly Lemon.

Well it depends on the chart and how it's weighted. Lemon will end up with more than 1 million downloads in 2019, whereas Uma to Shika is currently at a bit less than 500k. I don't see UtS catching up there, but it will have about 500k physical sales too.
Now idk if Billboard counts Youtube views, karaoke, twitter etc for their year end singles charts, but if they do then there's no way UtS is beating Lemon.
It will probably end up ahead on Oricon's combined singles chart though.

I can see UtS being ahead of Lemon in Oricon's combined singles chart. But since this is Billboard news, we need to look at the year-end prediction of Billboard. So there's not way UtS is gonna beat Lemon because Billboard also counts Youtube views, karaoke, and twitter mentions in their year-end single charts (though I think twitter mentions shouldn't be counted in Billboard Japan Hot 100).
