Japan's Survive Said The Prophet Rocks London Crowd in First U.K. Concert
Japanese band Survive Said The Prophet hit London for its first-ever U.K. show on Friday (Sept. 6), rocking the crowd at the Boston Music Room.
Many of the group's songs have reached international audiences by being featured as the opening numbers of various anime series and movies. The band, called "SABAPURO" by fans, has steadily built a following outside of Japan where it's based (guitarist Ivan hails from Hong Kong).
Fans from all over Europe flocked to see the five-man band perform live, welcoming the members with loud cheers and applause when they appeared onstage. SABAPURO kicked off the set with "TRANSlated," and frontman Yosh hyped up the crowd in-between songs in fluent English: "The first thing I want to say is that this country is so beautiful," he shared. "This is our first concert in this beautiful country, so everyone have fun, OK?"
True to his words, much fun was had, with fans singing along to the Japanese lyrics in "found & lost," the opener of Banana Fish, and responding with arms raised high during "Right and Left" and "SPINE."
The rockers also performed some familiar tracks that were enthusiastically received by the local crowd, such as "NE:ONE," the theme of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Epiode III, "Network System," and their latest single, "MUKANJYO," featured as the opener of Vinland Saga.
Yoshi thanked fans at the end of the set, informing them that the band looked forward to traveling to other countries in the near future. "We just want to enjoy music with you all, and are trying to do something really simple," he said. "Music is made up of beats and melodies. It was our dream to cross the sea from Japan, from Tokyo, to meet even one person who feels the same way we do. Tells us which country you want us to come. Something great can begin from a single voice."
Survive Said The Prophet launches its Made In Asia Tour on Sunday (Sept. 15), hitting 10 cities all over Japan into October. The band also has dates set Oct. 20 in Taipei, Oct. 22 in Seoul, and two shows with NOISEMAKER Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 in China, with additional showcases in Hong Kong (hosted by Dr. Martens) and Shanghai.
