Huh, they're actually doing something right. I only hope they'd also give some financial compensation to those who were cheated out of their places.
Also hope they're transparent about how the money will be used, and this is not some curve ball they're throwing to get this money back into their pockets.

Soopmi article: https://www.soompi.com/article/1374...s-plans-for-izone-and-x1-to-resume-activities

These statements are critical. Nothing in set in stone yet.

"When asked what the plan is if eliminated trainees wish to join IZ*ONE or X1, he responded, “This is not a matter for us to decide but what should be agreed upon with the agencies. Judgments will be made through discussions with the members and agencies.”

On IZ*ONE, he commented, “IZ*ONE promoted for over one year. They temporarily halted activities, but they are still contracted. There are also lots of requests from fans. The plan is for them to quickly resume activities.”

Regarding X1, he added, “We are still under discussion with the members and agencies. The resulting plan has not been confirmed yet. We are working on an agreement with adequate consideration of the opinions of the members and agencies. We will share an announcement once it is confirmed.”

He continued, “There are members who debuted in accordance with the actual votes. As their activities were halted, it seems that they have felt strong emotional pain and pressure. Their fans have also shown continuous support for their activities. We have based our judgments based on these factors. We are still discussing with their agencies, but I am aware that somewhat of an agreement has been reached on continuing with the same members. It has not been confirmed though.”"

As I predicted, CJ will continue with X1 and IZONE. Can't say whether this is the "right" decision, as there were rumors that some of the members were previously looking to leave the groups. Objectively, it is probably the best decision FOR CJ: If they disbanded the groups, there would have been no winners, everyone would have been unhappy, the prospect of future idol elimination programs under mnet/CJ would be in jeopardy, and CJ would have to bear the brunt of the criticisms alone, not to mention draw compensation from other revenue streams. By continuing the promotions, some people (group fans) would be happy (not Knetz though), they would be able to draw compensation from their income through X1/IZONE promotions, and depending on public reactions possibly restore their image enough to continue with the Produce or other idol competition programs (what they are really looking to save).

All this sounds good an all, but I'm doubtful of all the talk about compensation - to fans, to trainees, to the industry. We all know that past Produce trainees were compensated for the show - it's just that they were compensated poorly. Considering how the whole of SK pays low-level staff and part-timers poorly, I find it doubtful that CJ will start to value people more and pay they more accordingly. I'll believe that when I see it.

I am curious, though, as to why the presscon was deemed "urgent". They've also made efforts to highlight the involvement of the members and agencies in the current discussion. Nothing wrong with that, but the phrasing will help deflect blame from CJ if people are unhappy with the outcome. It certainly feels like a bit of stage-managing is being done behind the scenes, probably by some PR company.
