This isn't really a news update, but i'm seeing people spread PSA's about this and wanted to issue a warning on a new entertainment company that has been bouncing around: ChoCo Entertainment.
The company is currently recruiting very young trainees from all over the world and is promising to debut two kpop groups with these trainees.
One of the trainees had also participated in Project7, the show that produced the group Close Your Eyes. The trainee was eliminated in the show though.
Background Info
This company is started by ZoPD/ChoPD, the former ceo of Stardom Ent (BlockB and Topp Dogg/XENO-T).
He is is famously known for fraud, something he actually served a (suspended?) sentence for and has stolen around half a million dollars.
He has also defrauded his own employees.
While he was Stardom CEO and BlockB was under them, the BlockB had to file a lawsuit against him/the label for not being paid, and several Topp Dogg members also had to file lawsuits to get out of their contract with them. (I have seen reports that he stole 1 million KRW from Topp Dogg which is around 700 dollars?)
In 2015 Stardom was sold to Hunnus ENT and another lawsuit started. ChoPD stole around 270 million won, which is around 190 thousand USD, from Hunus during the merger. He claimed he made no profits from Topp Dogg though it was known he made money off of their Japan promotions and a lawsuit started by Hunus for him to hand over the hidden profits. ChoPD was found guilty of both fraud and attempted fraud and was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 2 years of probation.
Here is an old article about it.
What's going on now
ChoPD is currently trying to recruit new trainees to debut 2 groups.
He is making a "documentary series" about him making these groups. Here is their instagram post about it. (This dude somehow has connections to Halle Bailey and Jaime Foxx???)
He is also heavily into NFT's and has said he is planning to release the group's content through NFT's.
There has been major concerns and uproar about the trainees he is trying to recruit. If you check out their Tiktok Page you can see the vast majority of the people auditioning are foreigners who are minors. This seems to be his new business tactic, he is claiming to lure in foreign minors by promising to debut them in a kpop group. He seems to be targeting foreign minors because they would have less knowledge about his controversial past and would be easier to screw over in a contract or in general.
He is also actively trying to erase all the articles about his controversial past and try to replace them with articles people are suddenly writing about him being "such a wonderful producer".
People are really concerned about how young the trainees are. In 2023 he debuted a trainee group with two songs.
One member, Anpan, was born in 2010 and debuted in the trainee group when she was only 12 years (her birthday didn't pass yet) and joined the company in 2022 at only 11/12 years old. She has also been announced to be the leader of the upcoming girl group.
Her fellow member, TJ, is also born in 2010, joined the company in 2019 at only 8 years old and also debuted in the trainee group at 12.
While there has been some other older trainees, in general the company doesn't seem to recruit anyone born after 2010 with 2008 being the oldest they will accept.
To end this PSA
If you see this company floating around social media please do not engage or interact with them. Do not support this company. Do not audition for them and do not encourage any minors to audition for them as well.
If you were a Topp Dogg fan, please don't hesitate to talk about the mistreatment they faced under this man because a lot of newer kpop fans don't seem to know about it, and this dude is trying to erase his past so all of the minors auditioning for him don't find out.
Please be cautious of this company

🦋 Karma Butterfly 🦋I somewhat recall hearing about the Block B scenario. It's concerning that he is confirmed for fraud, is seeking to rewrite and replace that narrative, and is working with the underage group who could vulnerable to similar injustices.
