"Harry Styles, 'Little Mermaid' turns down the Prince's role... finding a replacement"

When the Little Mermaid will learn about the human civilization, there's a scene where they eat and where the Prince is teaching her how to eat with utensils. I feel like there would be such a huge controversy because he's a white man and she's a black woman. So maybe that's why he turned it down?

But don't they have to change the female lead? She just doesn't suit the role
3. [+489, -18]
I think that it would be better if they cast a black man as the male lead too
4. [+370, -3]
I think that it would be hard to cast a white man in the role of Eric. It's just like the best reply says, I don't think that the white male actors want to get involved in a role where it could be potentially racist. They insisted so much to stray away from the original work and have a black woman as the Little Mermaid so I think that it's just right that they cast a black man as the lead too
5. [+295, -4]
If they are unable to cast a male lead, then won't this project go down the drain? Then let's hope that they fail at the casting ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
6. [+278, -2]
No but they tried to stick to the original when casting for the other princesses but why are they doing this to Ariel?? This just looks like another fairy tale;;

Isn't this a bit of a stretch though? Like it's an unavoidable part of the plot, why would it be twisted that way?

But so far it is the best anti black LM argument I've seen tbh. It is pretty convincing to me, someone who doesn't care much. Whatever the case is casting white actor will be controversial. Because Eric's background in LM as a white prince who hang out in higher up circles, living luxury life and stuff and LM will be a black disabled girl with nothing.Isn't this a bit of a stretch though? Just cast a talented actor of color, problem solved (and it could be a little known person so it could kick start their career if they do well, which would be great).
He's 25 lol...the female lead is 19 so that's not too big of an age gap for a movie....I swear some kpop fans act like anyone over 21 is geriatric or something. Should 25 year olds be playing parent roles?

Prince Eric is one of the worst Disney princes.
He never deserves Ariel.

Why does the prince have to be another generic white guy? Just make the casting open ethnicity.

Who knew who knew I predicted it months ago.Why does the prince have to be another generic white guy? Just make the casting open ethnicity.
A ethnic girl who needs a white knight or white savior to save her! As expected from Hollywood and anyone smart enough would boycott this shit. I saw right through the bullshit. They done this story line too many times it’s getting old and easy to spot from 40 miles away.

I said he looks old not he is old. I know he's not old, I'm just saying he doesn't give off the same young fresh prince vibes that eric does because of his older mature look.Just cast a talented actor of color, problem solved (and it could be a little known person so it could kick start their career if they do well, which would be great).

I agree, if they could cast a black girl to play Ariel, why don't they just cast a POC Eric?? I would've loved Harry as Prince Erik but honestly who cares if Erik is white, black or asian

Hmm I still think a mermaid character shouldn't be evaluated as a human character would be but then again it's just me. I guess a lot of people agree that the actors would rather be safe than sorry. You have a point though, the class difference thing might do something here if it's emphasized in og LM too.But so far it is the best anti black LM argument I've seen tbh. With all the Disney politics shenanigans smashed together with obvious crash grabs, maybe they should totally change the script and made a re imagination. Do we really need a prince at all? Disney says they embrace modern feminism and multiculturalism, but it's all lip service and very shallow. They could twist and turn the whole Disney princess/prince tropes and make a contemporary adaption which could be consistent with their perceived politics views.
