Fans concerned about Yoona's new Kdrama

SNSD's Yoona is set to star in the Korean Drama version of the web novel The Tyrant's Chef.

Here is the description of the Web Novel:​

On the day she became the best chef in France, she time-slipped to Joseon Dynasty. What appeared before her eyes was the worst tyrant & the greatest gourmet in history, the 10th king of Joseon, Yeonsangun!​

The original title of the web novel was "Surviving as Yeonsangun’s Chef" though they have changed the Kdrama version to be about a fictional ruler rather than a real life one. The Kdrama is also set to have 12 episodes.

Originally Park Sung Hoon was supposed to star alongside Yoona as the tyrant though due to his squid game instagram stories scandal he has been booted from the show.

Actor Lee Chae Min is said to be replacing Park Sung Hoon in the kdrama, though fans are now increasing concerned about the age gap the leading couple will have.

Yoona is born in 1990 and is currently 34 years old.

Park Sung Hoon is born in 1985 and is 39 years old.

Lee Chae Min is born in 2000 and is 24 years old.

Fans are really shocked that the casting directors choose a new male lead actor that is 15 years younger than the previous one.

People are also a bit wary about the 10 year age gap between Yoona and Chae Min, and the fact that despite both characters being adults the Kdrama will now have a 24 year old being shipped with a 34 year old.

Kdramas with female leads much older than the male lead has been increasing a bit in Korean media. For example, the 2022 Kdrama Forecasting Love and Weather had Park Min Young and Song Kang and the kdrama romantic leads with their characters being 35 and 27.

There is also a really popular webtoon right now called "Tears Of A Withered Flower" that has the female lead being around 35 and the male lead being around 22-25. (I am not really reading this novel because the age gap kinda gives me the ick, but it's really REALLY popular on tiktok and based on the videos that i've seen the male lead says he is 10 years younger than the female lead which would make him 25? but then other parts of the story say he's 22-23? I don't really care enough about the webtoon to research it though fans of the webtoon seem confused as well of just how much younger the male lead is).

Nevertheless, i'm not sure if it's 100% confirmed Lee Chae Min is the new male lead, but many people are concerned online about the age gap between the leading couple.​

I mean if he was freshly an adult I would understand the concern, but the younger actor has been an adult for almost an decade and is the same age as I was when I met my partner who is 10 years older than me. I think the bigger issue is people not being able to separate their character ships from the in real life people portraying them

female actresses play the love interest of actors 10+ years older than them all the time if he was freshly 20 or Yuna was like, 40, I'd be skeeved out, but ultimately, I don't think a 24-year-old playing the love interest of a 34-year-old is a big deal

I'm not concerned but usually i don't see the chemistry between leads when there is an age gap like this specifically if the female is older. I wish Park Sung remained the lead..
