How the Grinch Stole +Cards

Intro

Guard all ye +cards! ‘Cause there is someone lurking among us all whose only desire is to sabotage and steal this Very +Card Winter.

How to Play

The game is played in 5 rounds. In each round, players are randomly assigned a role. As roles are randomized, a player might get the same role for more than 1 round.

Roles:

(1) The Grinch whose identity is unknown to all other players, including his pet minion Max. His objective is to stay undetected.

(1) Max whose identity is made known to all players. His objective is to assist and give out clues to his master, The Grinch.

(4-6) Clueless +Card Hoarders who do not know anyone else’s identity but their own. Their objective is to prove their innocence as well as figure out which player The Grinch is.

Preparation

Before the start of the game, each player must pick 7 cards from the +CARDSINO and notify the GM via PM of their choices. Hint: it is recommended that players pick cards that are varied and descriptive, as that will help them in the game. If they pick the same cards as another player, they will be asked to resubmit.

Round Start

At the start of each round, the GM will send the +Card Hoarders and Max a word/phrase via PM. This word/phrase will be the same for everyone and The Grinch is the only one who will not receive this secret word/phrase.

Card-Playing Phase

Max will have 2 minutes to review and play a card from his card bank in the gameplay thread. His goal is to choose a card that best fits the secret word/phrase given by the GM, as he wants to give out useful clues so that The Grinch can blend in with the rest.

Once Max has posted the first card, then, in randomized order, the rest of the players also proceed to do the same. The +Card Hoarders’ goal is also to play the card that best fits the secret word/phrase so that they can prove their identity.

Once all players have posted their cards, Max plays a second card and the rest also do the same.

Voting Phase

Once everyone has played two cards, the secret word/phrase is revealed and voting begins. All the +Card Hoarders have 3 minutes to send in their vote on whom they think The Grinch is via PM.

Scoring

Each +Card Hoarder who voted correctly scores 1.5 point.

If The Grinch received 0-1 vote, The Grinch scores 3 points and Max scores 2 points.

If two or more players guessed correctly, The Grinch and Max do not score any point.

The winner is the player with the most points at the end of 5 rounds. If there's a tie in scores, the player who has won more # of rounds will be the winner.

Card Bank Refill

After the end of each round, the GM will give *2 new cards to each player to replace the 2 cards that have been played in the previous round. So they will always start a round with 7 unplayed cards.

*These cards may not necessarily be +cards. I'll decide by tomorrow.

Rules

Please have good sportsmanship and do not collude with other players.

Please do not reveal your cards, identity, or the secret word while the round is still going on.

Players are allowed to talk, defend, lie, and accuse during both the Card-Playing and the Voting Phases, but they must not hint anything about the secret word/phrase until it is revealed.

Have fun and be nice.
