Former Hello!Project idol and member of S/mileage-turned-ANGERME Fukuda Kanon has been announced as the newest addition to the idol unit ZOC under the stage name Kannagi Maro.
Maro, which was commonly used as her nickname during her Hello!Project years, graduated from ANGERME (formerly known as S/mileage) in 2015. She remained under Up-Front, Hello!Project's parent company, until January of this year. She had been working intermittently as a lyricist for Hello!Project after writing the lyrics for her own graduation song, "Watashi." There was much speculation surrounding her departure since she appeared to still be on good terms with Up-Front, but now she has announced her name change and role in the idol group ZOC.
ZOC is an idol unit created by and featuring Oomori Seiko, noted singer-songwriter and idol fan, in 2018. They were signed to T-Palette Records in 2019 and have already accumulated 12 million views on their YouTube channel in less than a year a of activity and only 6 videos. Maro will have the color "chestnut cream" and makes her debut in ZOC's new single "SHINEMAGIC," to be released April 21, 2020. The song is written by Oomori and arranged by Ookubo Kaoru, a frequent Hello!Project collaborator.
Maro is one of the most interesting idols to come out of Hello!Project in terms of personality, and I look forward to seeing her continue her idol career as a member of ZOC!
