I'm so happy for Bibi's success (been a fan since her stellar cover of Red Velvet's Peekaboo) but I need to revisit Bam Yang Gang cause, right now, I don't get it.

Same here. I've listened to Bam Yang Gang multiple times and I still don't get it.

I can see why the song might appeal to Koreans — the song's title is a reference to a Korean snack. But there's also a part of me that thinks — although I cannot possibly prove it, but judging from the recent news — I think the song may have benefitted in part from chart manipulation (sajaegi), and I feel that this issue has largely gone unnoticed because her fanbase is smaller than those who already have been called out publicly — those who I have identified as also having a larger fanbase.

But yes, like you I don't personally listen to the song either.

It's possible. I guess we'll never really know.

I just know that there are songs that do well in Korea that I don't appreciate, and vice versa. And that's OK.

For example, I've never understood the phenomenal appeal of Red Flavor and Love Scenario. Conversely, there are some Mamamoo title tracks (e.g., Wind Flower) that I thought should've done way better in the SK market.

Yes, I have to admit truthfully, though, that some of the songs charting right now on the Korean charts probably aren't in keeping with my taste either, and that's probably the reason why I pay less and less attention to how a song charts as every year passes.
