So I'm doing Pschyology h/w. i am suppose to explain Kohlberg's stage 1.
This is what stage 1 says: The punishment and obedience orientation. The physical consequences of action determine its goodness or badness regardless of the human meaning or value of these consequences. Avoidance of punishment and unquestioning deference to power are values in their own right, not in terms of respect for an underlying moral order supported by punishment and authority
Here's my explanation: Kohlberg’s theory of moral development, stage 1: Punishment-and-Obedience Orientation. This stages refers to the punishment we receive depends on the act of its goodness or badness. The greater the damage; the greater the punish. Because we fear being punish we obey by the rules. As human-being, we fear certain things in life; punishment being one of those many things. We don’t want to be punish no matter what we do but with rules come sanctions.
What's your understanding of the stage?
