When performances are shorter than others it isn't a matter of money but a matter of popularity and priority. Music show producers allot the time according to what they think will garner more attention. That is why sometimes lesser known groups don't get to perform on music shows but popular groups without a recent release do special stages. Doing a full 3 min 30 performance wouldn't cost any more money than doing a 2 min 50 as they did. There is an element of finance and budget to performing on music shows but it has nothing to do with how long their performance is. It only affects if they perform or not, how many songs they perform, how long their promotional period on music shows is, etc.
