Here is Part 2 for JYP Entertainment. it took me longer than expected but I have finally finished it. The next part for JYP should take longer as I haven't written it yet but you can expect it to run from about 2006 until 2009 or 2010 depending how packed it is.

JYP Entertainment: g.o.d and the Era of the Soloist, 2000-2005

One of the first trainees brought into JYPE would be a young man by the name of Jung Ji-hoon. Jung Ji-hoon was born in Seoul, South Korea. From a young age Jung Ji-hoon had an interest in an entertainment career and at the age of 16 he would debut in a group called Fanclub. Fanclub was a six-member group that debuted in May of 1998 with members Jung Ji-hoon, Hong Sang-jin, Kim Gyu-min, Kim Ho-sang, Frankie and Yu Seong-Hyun. The group was meant to be a direct challenge to Shinwa as the two groups debuted at around the same time. Their first album, Fan Club, was released in May of 1998 and included the single “Search For a Dream”. The album did not do as well as could have been expected but the group would go on to release their follow-up album the next year in June of 1999. This album would contain the singles “Baby” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and find moderate success but the group would go onto soon after. This meant that Jung Ji-hoon had to go back out and look for a new company to sign with, this turned out to be difficult. While his singing and dancing skills were praised his looks were criticized as he did not have the desired double eyelid that was popular at the time. In December of 2000 however, he was discovered and recruited by JYP who perhaps saw something of himself in the young Ji-hoon. Both men made their debut with groups that failed, both men were denied because of their looks and both men continued past these difficulties, showing remarkable drive to accomplish their goals. With this the young trainee Jung Ji-hoon would begin what would prove to be a short training period under JYP before making his debut with the stage name Rain.

The year 2000 would also see Singer Park Ji-yoon sign with JYPE, highlighting further the growth of the company as it started to sign more artists. Park Ji-yoon, born in Seoul, South Korea, would start her career as a model at the age of 13 and as a singer with the release of her first album, titled Skyblue Dream, in December of 1997. Her debut album would be a hit and specifically the title song of the same name, “Skyblue Dream”. The album would see commercial success as well selling 150,000 physical copies. She would follow this album up with a second one in November of 1998 titled, Blue Angel. This album would also be a hit with its title track, “The Rain in My Eyes” being received well by fans. The album would be a commercial success as well selling 230,000 physical copies. This year Ji-yoon would also make her small and big screen debut with the MBC show Three Guys and Three Girlsand with her cameo appearance in the movie First Kiss. Ji-yoon would release her third and final album with Seoul Records in August of 1999 titled The Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number. This year Park Ji-yoon would also act in the SBS drama Ghost. This album would do well with the title song, “Don’t Know Anything” doing well and commercially selling 380,000 physical copies. Ji-yoon would release a compilation album in June of 2000 titled +Best (Forever Park Ji-yoon),before leaving Seoul Records and putting out the albumComing-of-Age Ceremony in July of 2000. The album’s title track, “Adult Ceremony” would become a mega hit and push Park Ji-yoon to further success. This album would be her most successful commercial selling 399,143 physical copies, Ji-yoon had truly arrived at the peak of her popularity. Park Ji-yoon would also continue the trend populairzzed by H.O.T of creating an official color and fan club. Ji-yoon’s official color was blue and her fanclub was called Blue Angel. This was important as along with Ryang-hyun Ryang-ha, she would be one of the first JYP artists to have an official color and fan club.

In January of 2000, g.o.d would continue their entertainment success by staring in their own reality show titled g.o.d’s Baby Diaries. This show proved to be hugely popular and would be the first time an idol group would have their own reality show. It would start a trend in the industry that survives and thrives to this day. In November of 2000, the group would release their third album titled Chapter 3. This album would do extremely well with critics praising the group for their relatable songs, listenable melodies and the natural voices of the members. The songs, “One Candle”, “Sky Blue Ballon” (referring to their fandoms color sky blue), would become hits and their title track, “Lies” would dominate the music charts that year and would ultimately win the Grand Prize at the KBS Music Awards. Commercial the group would also see almost unheard-of success selling 600,000 physical albums in a few days and eventually selling 1.8 million physical copies making them the first group since Seo Taiji & Boys to do this. The group would end the year having firmly established themselves as one of the biggest names in the Korean music industry, thanks in part to their amazing talent and to the hit machine that was JYP.

It would be this year JYPE would debut their first group with Ryang-hyun Ryang-ha, a duo made up of twin brothers from Busan named Kim Ryang-hyun and Kim Ryang-ha. The young twins were found by JYP personally due to their dancing talent, they were taken under his wing and to the dance studio that JYP was renting out at the time and which served as JYPE’s training center. Ryang-hyun Ryang-ha would debut in January of 2000 with Twin Power. Their cute dance and personalities would gain them popularity, their young age of 13 would also gain them some notoriety as they were some of the youngest idols to have ever debuted. The album would find decent commercial success and sell roughly 64,584 physical copies. Ryang-hyun and Rynag-ha would also develop their own official color and fandom name, their color being gold and their fandom name being R.R.F. These twins along with Jinju would be the first talents that JYPE would pick up and begin training, Jinju for her amazing voice and the Ryang twins due to their dance skills.

Thus, the year 2000 would end on a high note for JYP and JYPE and both he and his company were seeing further success. JYPE produced a successful comeback for Park Ji-yoon and she found immediate success. JYPE’s first group had also found some success and gained fame due to their age and cute personalities and dances. JYP himself had further proved what a remarkable producer, lyricist, and composer he was as he continued to churn out hit after hit for g.o.d. The year 2001 would see JYP himself return to the music scene as a perform for the first time in three years and would see him continue to write and produce hits for g.o.d.

The year would begin with the changing of the company name of JYPE to JYP Entertainment in April of 2001. This year would also see JYP Entertainments ambitions begin to rise as he was training new generations of artists such as Rain. In June of 2001, JYP would release his sixth album titled Game. The main hits from the album “Swing Baby” and “I Have A Women” highlighted the mix of swing and R&B that was popular at the time, “Swing Baby” brought the swing music craze of the US to Korea and “I Have A Women” continued JYP’s love of the R&B genre. The album would also find commercial success selling 383,200 physical copies. After this album, JYP would use the rest of the year working on training his trainees and writing songs for g.o.d and various other artists.

g.o.d would begin the year by going on tour throughout South Korea, their first such tour in their careers. The group would become only the second group, after H.O.T, to hold a concert at the Seoul Olympic Stadium, the largest sports venue in Korea. To close out the year the group would release their fourth studio album titled Chapter 4, which again was made up of songs that were primarily written and composed by JYP. The title track, “Road”, was meant to convey the groups uncertainty with the future now that they had finally found success after debuting. “Road” quickly became a hit and was critically well received, winning the grand prize at all three year-end award shows held by broadcasting stations (KBS, MBC, and SBS) making it one of the few songs to achieve this. The album itself would win the Daesang (Grand Prize) at the 16thGolden Disk Awards. Commercially the album would also do very well selling roughly 1,441,209 copies within its first month of release. With this release g.o.d would be the best-selling idol group of 2001 and cement themselves as the premier group of the time and one of the best-selling groups in K-pop since Seo Taiji & Boys. During this time g.o.d members would continue to appear on variety shows in order to keep their image in front of the public this further helped their popularity and showed the benefit of constant TV appearances.

Jinju would continue her career and begin the year by releasing what would be her penultimate album with JYP Entertainment in March of 2001. This album would be called Love Is… and it would further show the vocal prowess of Jinju. This album would not do as well physically as her second album selling roughly 21,096 copies.

Overall, 2001 would be a great year for JYP personally as he was able to show that even after a long hiatus he was able to come back and release a successful album. He was also able to show that he continued to be a hit machine, making hit after hit for g.o.d and other artists. For JYP Entertainment however, 2001 proved to be more of a preparatory year as they got ready to debut several artists, both solo and group and to produce come backs for other artists.

Park Ji-yoon would begin 2002 for JYP Entertainment with her first comeback for the company and her 5thstudio album titled, Man. In this album Ji-yoon would continue her mature themed music as the video for the title track, “I’m A Man” showed Ji-yoon dressed as man and the video culminated in her getting killed by a car bomb. The album would do well commercially selling 142,108 physical copies. Overall, this would be a successful comeback for Ji-yoon as she would find success with her single “I’m A Man” and with the album Man.

2002 would also be the year that one of JYP Entertainments longest trainees would finally make his debut. Jung Ji-hoon had been one of JYP Entertainments first trainees, having been recruited in 2000 for his dancing skills Ji-hoon has undergone 2 years of training and was deemed finally ready for his debut. It was decided that he would debut with the stage name Rain, a name that would soon be iconic not only in Korea but across the globe. Rain would make his debut on May 13th2002 with the album Bad Guy. The album would have two singles, “Bad Guy” and “Handshake”. The songs would find major success and Rain’s debut album would do well physically selling 143,414 physical copies. Rain’s official color is grey and his fandom is official called, Cloud. This would be a fantastic start to Rain’s solo career and would show the benefits of patience and determination.

JYP Entertainment was not done and 2002 would be the year that they would debut their third female solo artist. Byul, or Kim Go-eun, was born in Seosan and began when she went to a JYP fan meeting. Kim Go-eun attended a JYP fan meeting and sang for JYP and told him that she wished to become a singer. JYP asked her to leave her phone number and he would have someone get back to her, for weeks Go-eun waited and was finally contacted by a JYP representative. Kim Go-eun auditioned and after passing, began her training under JYP Entertainment. In 2001, Byul would participate in her first official work as an artist by singing an OST for the drama titled Take Care of my Cat. Kim Go-eun would train for a few years and then go on to debut under the stage name Byul, literally meaning Star, on October 10th2002 with the album titled December 32. Byul would find success and her track, “December 32” would gain some fame. Commercially Byul’s debut album would do decently selling 64,143 physical copies. Byul would decide her official color as purple and her fandom name as 별의여신김고은.

Jinju released her final album with the company in December of 2002 titled, Chance. The album would achieve moderate notoriety but Jinju would ultimately decide to leave JYP Entertainment. Jinju was JYP Entertainment’s first artists and this marked the end of an era for JYP’s first star. Jinju would continue her musical career but take frequent breaks to attend school and to rest due to an issue with her vocal cords. This year JYP Nation, the collective name for JYP artitsts, also released its first album titled, JYP Entertainment Album Remix. This album contained various songs from JYP artists and would continue a trend started with companies like SM Entertainment, SMTown, and YG, YG Family.

In the last months of 2002 JYP Entertainment would debut their second group and their first group consisting of more than two members, Noel. Up to this point JYP Entertainment focused more on solo artists, with the only group being remotely connected to the company, besides Ryang-hyun Ryang-ha, being g.o.d and they were not directly signed with JYP. Noel would debut as a four-member vocal group going with the iconic JYP R&B sound. Each member of Noel was handpicked by JYP due to their talent in singing and joined JYPE in roughly 1999 and would train for three years before debuting in 2002. Kang Kyun-sung was the youngest of the group and one of the vocals of the group. Next came Na Sung-ho, who was born in Seoul and debuted as another powerhouse vocal. Lee Sang-gon became the leader of the group, being the eldest this made sense, and he was also a key vocal. The last member was Jun Wong-sun, Wong-sun was also born in Seoul and would be known particularly for his great singing. Noel would be uniquely promoted as just months before their debut JYP Entertainment would enter into a strategic alliance with SKT, a telecom company. Thus, Noel would be first teased through mobile advertisements and by television commercials for SKT. The group would make their debut in December of 2002 with their first album, Noel. The title song, “Despite Holding On” would become an instant hit and would be warmly received by fans for its sad tone and desperate feeling. Commeciral the group would do well selling roughly 28,729 physical copies in its first month. The album would eventually finish with around 75,025 physical copies sold.[1]To emphasize the vocal skill of each member the group’s first album would also feature solos sung by each member. The group would debut with the official colors of yellow/orange and the official fandom name of Noel Light. With their successful debut, JYP Entertainment had successfully debuted their first true K-pop group.

During the preparation for Noel’s debut, JYP was also helping g.o.d produce their fifth album titled Chapter 5: Letter. Throughout most of 2002 g.o.d was not out in the public much as they were busy touring with their “100-day Human Concert”. This caused the album to not do as successfully and only one song from the album won first place on a music show, that song being, “0%”. The album would still do well commercially but sell considerably less than their fourth album with 390,850 physical copies in their first month.[2]The album would later finish with roughly 463,038 physical sales.[3]The next year would be rocky for g.o.d as their contracts would end with Sidus HQ and they would not promote music as a group for the entire year.

2002 was the year that JYP Entertainment made their biggest push to dominate the entertainment industry. Of course, the company had artists before but with Rain they finally had a star of their own making and with Noel, they had a group they could now claim as completely theirs. The next few years would further cement JYP Entertainment as a force as Rain rose to become one of Korea’s biggest international stars.

Park Ji-yoon began 2003 for JYP Entertainment by releasing what turned out to be her final album with the company. This would be Park Ji-yoon’s sixth studio album and it would be titled Woo~ Twenty One. This album would be Ji-yoon’s worst performing album both on the Korean charts and commercially as it sold 105,334 physical copies. Park Ji-yoon would soon leave JYP Entertainment after the promotions of her sixth album due to the creative differences with JYP. Ji-yoon felt that she was not expressing herself as an artist and instead being entirely controlled by JYP. After leaving JYP Entertainment, Ji-yoon would go on a six-year hiatus from the music industry.

JYP Entertainment would also release its second male duo in July of 2003 called, One-Two. The group was made of Oh Chang-hoon and Song Ho-beom, artist with previous experience in the music industry. Oh had performed in a CO-ED duo with a former musician named Kim Jun-hee and Song had been a member of a group called Scream. The groups music focused mainly on the rap and hip hop focused and this was clear from their debut title track, “Now…Hips”. This song became popular due to its dance, due to its hip moments and for its chants during the song. The song was popular in that it was able to involve the audience in the performance; thus, its performance was a more interactive experience for fans. Commercially the group did not do so well, but their performance and song were memorable and highlighted the producing skill of JYP.

Later in the year Rain would make his first solo comeback with the release of his second studio album titled, Rain 2. This album became a major hit and sold particularly well in Korea as well as Southeast Asia. Rain soon became a star all over Asia and his fame continued to skyrocket as he promoted his second album. The R&B touch of the album also helped it gain serious attention. A title track of the album, “You Already knew” would do particularly well and gain attention for its melody. The album would do well commercially selling roughly 185,781 physical copies. With the release of his second studio album, Rain had fully cemented himself into the Korean music scene and established himself as an accomplished R&B singer. His style very much matched the kind of style that JYP excelled in and which had brought him so much fame.

Overall, 2003 was a rather slow year for JYP as most of its group were in transition or leaving the company. Rain continued to show a strong performance both internationally and domestically. His R&B style matched well with JYP and the two seemed to hit their stride as a performer and producer. During this time, g.o.d began experiencing problems as rumors began to circulate about the disbandment of the group. Yoon Kye-sang began to show an interest in continuing his career as an actor after having a part in an MBC drama called “New non-stop” back in 2001. It is rumored that the CEO of Sidus HQ, Jung Hoon-tak, circulated an article that claimed that Yoon Kye-sang did not care for the group and would rather continue his acting career. This worried fans and some called Kye-sang a traitor and asked him to leave the group. Contract conflicts began to exist between JYP Entertainment and Sidus HQ as well further complicated the direction of the group. These conflicts would result in carry on into late 2004 and have a tremendous effect on the group both personally or the members and for the groups wider popularity.

Ryang-hyun Ryang-ha would make their long-awaited return after a hiatus of nearly four years in early 2004 with the release of their album titled, Bleu. This album would not do as commercially well as their previous album selling 10,775 physical copies.[4]This comeback did not due nearly as well as their previous release and the duo decided to leave JYP Entertainment soon after due to difference in artistic direction between the father of the boys and JYP. During this time main criticized JYP for seemingly abandoning the two young br0thers that he had personally recruited. But this was later cleared up by Ryang-hyun as he said that JYP still contacted them and checked up on them even after their contract ended. With this departure, JYP Entertainment lost all its founding artists and the oldest artist remaining at JYP was Rain. This really showed the youth of the company as the oldest debuted artist was only himself only had debuted 2 years ago.

Noel made their first comeback in May of 2004 with their second album, Even If It Hurts. The track, “Proposal”, was not immediately popular but eventually gained a lot of traction with men and became a huge karaoke song. The title track with the same name as the album never gained widespread acclaim. This comeback saw Noel go through a decrease in popularity overall. In the first month the group would sell roughly 14,798 physical copies and would finish the year with 19,186 physical copies sold. This was a significant decrease from their previous sales and would signal the beginning of the end for Noel at JYP Entertainment.

This year JYP Entertainment released their next solo star Hannah. Hannah, birth name Ryu Suk-jin, was born in 1981 and would gain the attention of JYP. Hannah would get some pre-debut experience by featuring on a Noel track titled, “Rewind”, on their second album. Hannah would release her first album, titled Bounce, on July 19th2004. The title track, “Bounce”, would feature a strong hip hop sound and be composed by the best composer at JYP Entertainment, Bang Si-hyuk. JYP observed the production of the album and had a lot of expectation for Hannah. Even with this attention Hannah’s debut did not do very well and Hannah would not release another album with JYP Entertainment.

Rain would release his third album on October 8th2004 titled, It’s Raining. The album showcased a more upbeat hip hop sound, this was especially clear through the album’s title track, “It’s Raining”. With the release of his third album Rain’s popularity exploded outside of Korea and into much of Asia. Throughout Southeast Asia, Rain’s title track “It’s Raining” charted number one and his album topped multiple charts as well. With such massive success in South East Asia, Rain became one of the first Hallyu stars to truly dominate much of the Asian market, pushing outside of East Asia. The album would go on to sell roughly 202,764 copies in Korea alone and over 1,123,000 copies throughout all of Asia. The album sold, 100,000 copies in Japan, 500,000 copies in China, 70,000 copies in Taiwan, 150,000 copies in Thailand, and 50,000 copies in Indonesia.[5]With these impressive results Rain had cemented himself as the leader of the K-Pop Hallyu wave throughout all of Asia. This year would also see Rain win an award at the Baeksang Arts Awards for Most Popular TV Actor for his debut role in the show Sang Doo! Let’s Go to Schoolthe previous year. Rain continued his actor career by starring in Full Housewith Song Hye-kyo to massive ratings that peaked at 42.7 percent. For his performance in the drama, Rain won the KBS Drama Award for Best Actor. With this, 2004 would be the most successful year of Rain’s career and propel him to the front of Korea’s ever expanding Hallyu Wave throughout Asia.

The year 2004 saw g.o.d go through many changes both in the dynamic of the group itself and the management of the group. This year, g.o.d’s contract with Sidus HQ finished and g.o.d decided to split ways with their debut company and sign on completely with JYP Entertainment. Now not only would the group have their songs produced by JYP but they would also be managed completely by JYP Entertainment. However, the group went through some troubles when Yoon Kye-sang decided to leave the group to pursue acting in late 2004 just before the release of their 6thalbum. The group decided to continue as a quartet and so released their 6thstudio album titled Chapter 6: An Ordinary Day on December 9th2004. In preparation for the album, g.o.d members practiced on filling the hole that Yoon- kye-sang left when he departed the group. Son Ho-young, who had focused alternatively on rapping and singing, decided to focus only on singng and with this the group was split into two groups, Kim Tae-woo and Son Ho-young would be the singers and Park Joon-hyung and Danny Ahn focused on rap. With ther release of their 1stalbum as a quartet, g.o.d hoped to show that they could still continue as a four-man group. This comebacks theme highlights the difficult year that g.o.d had just experienced in rumors of their disbandment and the departure of a member. The title song, “Normal Day” highlights the return to normal after going through the pain of a break up. It also represents the normal day for g.o.d when they can just get together and practice. This album thus serves as an appropriate representation of how g.o.d felt at the time.[6] The title song did well and won several music shows along with another track from the album titled, “The Reason Why Opposites Attract”. The album did well in its first month selling roughly 140,691 physical copies. This was a good amount for the time but showcased a clear decline when compared to the sales of their last album.[7]The album would continue to be one of the best-selling albums for several months and would eventually accumulate roughly 213,187 physical copies sold. While g.o.d experienced an obvious decline in commercial success, creatively this showed that the members could still release quality music as a group and highlighted even more their growth as artists.

This year would also see the official debut of G. Soul, a JYP Entertainment trainee since 2001. G. Soul, birth name Kim Ji-hyun, was discovered by JYP in 2001 and so impressed JYP with his voice that JYP took G.Soul on as a trainee. This would be the beginning of G. Soul’s long and twisted road to debuting with an official album. But in this year, he would make his official artist debut by participating in a OST for the drama Full House, starring Rain, titled “Too Late”.

Overall this was a year worth both highs and lows for JYP Entertainment as one of their stars gained mass appeal across Asia, but their remaining artists either debuted to low success or saw their popularity declining. 2005 would see the continuation of JYP Entertainment artists continuing to struggle with the exception of Rain. The next year would also continue to show the JYP focus of debuting female soloist as two new soloist Lim Jeong-hee and IVY.

Byul began 2005 for JYP Entertainment, releasing here first album in three years on Marhc 17th2005. The album was titled Star and further showed the R&B style of Byul along with featured R&B artists Nak Yoon-kwon. The title track, titled “Saying Hello”, featured Nak Yoon-kwon and showed Byul’s talent in R&B singing and also highlighted JYP Entertainemnts focus on R&B artists. The album did not find much commercial success when compared to her debut selling 9,211 in its first month and 17,306 total copies sold. Following this, JYP Entertainment debuted their 5thfemale soloist named Lim Jeong-hee. Lim Jeong-hee grew up in a musical environment with her father being an avid fan of pop music and being educated in classical music and learning to play the piano at a young age. In high school, Jeong-hee continued her interest in music by performing in a song contest for teens in Seoul. She won the competition and this led her to study Popular music upon entering college. During this time Jeong-hee’s love of music continued to grow as she became a street performer and regularly performed on the streets of Seoul, gathering a following of loyal fans. Lim Jeong-hee would sign with JYP entertainment sometime before 2005 and debut on June 10th2005 with her debut album titled Music is My Life. JYP and Bang Si-hyuk were main masterminds behind her debut album, writing and composing most of her songs together. Lim Jeong-hee’s album would do relatively well and her title track Music is my life would gain some traction. Commercially her album sold roughly 14,837 physical copies. Lim Jeong-hee’s fandom name is SoulMate.

Rain would begin the year by going on his first concert tour titled Rainy Day Tour. This would be a massive tour that showcased Rain’s popularity, with stops in 14 cities across Asia, Southeast Asia and in North America. Tickets for each stop sold out quickly, within minutes of being open, and in total 307,000 seats were sold in over 14 cities. His concert at Madison Square Garden during his New York stop became the largest Korean concert ever held in the city. This Tour highlighted Rain’s massive popularity throughout Asia and particularly in Southeast Asia, Japan and China. Rain’s only physical release this year was not an album but instead a concert tour video that showed his first ever live solo concert, the release was titled Rainy Day, Rain’s First Solo Live Concert. The concert video was released in June of 2005 and sold well.

This year JYP Entertainment also became involved with the debut of IVY in collaboration with the label Phantom Entertainment. IVY, birth name Park Eun-hye, was born in 1982 in Seoul and would grow up close to music as both of her parents were interested in music, her mother majoring in vocal music and her father being a part of the Korean Navy Band. In high school Eun-hye would form a 6-member girl group called Cheongsan Gari, she would act as the lead vocal of the group.[8]Eun-hye then went to university and caught the attention of Cho Yoon-hye, who told her to audition for her agency. Eun-hye would pass the audition during her second attempt and become a trainee at Phantom Entertainment. In 2004, Eun-hye meet JYP and he convinced her to switch from preparing for a debut as a ballad singer and instead focus on dance music. She took this step and JYP took such an interest in her that she became something of a dual project between JYP Entertainment and Phantom Entertainment. Sort of how g.o.d was split between JYP Entertainment and Sidus HQ. JYP produced her title track, called “Tonight’s Work”, and her debut album, called My Sweet and Free Day, was released on July 19th2005. The album was largly a success and would go on to sell roughly 40,420 physical copies. Ivy’s official color is Lime and her fandom name is Ivynus.

One Two made a comeback this year on August 7th2005 with their second album titled Ladies First. This album did very poorly and would be the last album that the group would release with JYP. Hannah also made her comeback this year with the release of her digital single titled Necklace. After these failures JYP and Hannah parted ways and she would go on to sign with ID PLUS. Hannah would continue her career releasing several albums over the next half decade. In October of 2014, it was announced that Hannah had sadly by suicide at her home in Gyeonggi Province.

To close the year g.o.d would make their final comeback under JYP Entertainment. For most of 2005, g.o.d would spend their time on their Concert tour known as god is BACK-National Tour Concert. This tour started in Febraury and ended in May. During this time the group was also preparing what would be their final album until their nearly 10-year hiatus as a group. The groups seventh album was released on October 28th2005 and was titled The 7thChapter: Into the Sky. The title track of the album was titled “2 Love” and would be the last g.o.d song to win an award on a music show. The album did not do well commercially compared to the groups previous releases and sold roughly 109,757 physical copies. To finish the year g.o.d would hold a series of concerts titled g.o.d-the LAST beginning concert, These concerts lasted for much of November and December of 2005. The groups good-bye concert was held on December 28th2005 and would be the last activity the group would do together until their reunion in 2014. The concert was titled, g.o.d- the LAST ENCORE FOREVER, god concert. With the finishing of this concert the group would official leave JYP Entertainment and go on hiatus with each member focusing on their solo activities. G.o.d legacy and impact on the Korean music industry was rivaled by few and their impact on how future idol groups would promote themselves would forever change the idol music scene. While groups such as H.O.T, Shinwa, Sechskies, and S.E.S were mostly followed by a teenage fanbase, g.o.d actually appealed to teenagers and adults, this made them seem to be above a mere “idol” group. Their songs such as “To Mother” showed that idol music could appeal to a broad range of Koreans instead of just teenagers and further cemented their legacy as a broad appeal group. G.o.d would also become the first group to be called, “the nation’s group” which again shows their broad appeal across all age ranges. Several current idols cite g.o.d as their inspirations and the reasons for their interest in becoming a singer. The group was also the first group to have their own reality show with g.o.d’s Baby Diaries, this allowed fans to see a different side of their idols and this connection is partly the reason why g.o.d gained the fame they did. In 2016 the Korean newspaper The Dong-a Illbo voted on the 15 greatest male group in Korean history. 35 music industry professionals and 2000 Korean citizens participated in the poll. The public voted g.o.d to be the 3rdgreatest Korean boy group and the music industry experts voted g.o.d as the 5thgreatest boy group. [9]The group also pioneered by how they were managed as four of the members were managed by Sidus HQ and one, Kim Tae-woo, was managed by JYP Entertainment. This system would later be used for older groups that wanted to continue group activities while being individually managed by different companies, some examples of this would be Shinwa and Sechskies. Overall, g.o.d has gone down as the most influential and legendary boy group of all time and their impact on the idol industry is still felt through today.

This year proved to be a transitional year for JYP Entertainment as many artists such as Hana, g.o.d and One-two would leave the company. At the same time soloist like Lim Jeong-hee and Byul, while still doing a good job, did not become as big of stars as JYP Entertainment would have hoped. The only bright spot, Rain, did continue to shine this year with a massive tour that showed his worldwide fame. Another big change this year was the departure of Bang Si-hyuk from JYP Entertainment and his founding of Big Hit Entertainment. Bang Si-hyuk has been with JYP Entertainment since day 1 and had been one of only three employees of the company during its early days. Bang Si-hyuk was the most important producer for JYP Entertainment behind only JYP himself and helped produce many hit songs for stars such as g.o.d and Rain. Overall 2005 proved to be a transition year for JYP Entertainment as the company was preparing to debut their next series of groups and at the same time losing their older groups and soloist, 2006 would see the continuation of this process.

It seems like JYP has a curse of only having one really successful artist/group.

Depends on your perspective tbh. But i do agree they have that one group that makes the other groups look like noobs.

Tbh I think SM and YG might also be the same. Like when EXO started getting successful iirc SNSD stopped dominating kpop and barely won daesangs anymore.
