Recently, virtual influencers/characters are leading entertainment and media industry. And as trend geek i noticed appearances of virtual idols in kpop.
Some of them are really famous and like do not feel virtual at all. Rozy has a huge popularity in instagram and Eternity is gaining more recognition on Youtube.
i mean it is both fascinating and a little bit shocking how technology can be so upgraded 🤗

Probably not yet, maybe they can improve the AI, the technology. If we reach that level we'll have other concerns of course.

Virtual idols have of course some advantages : "perfect" visual who can fit anyone's taste, never tired, no scandal, no dating, doesn't need to eat, to drink, to sleep or to train.

But they remain as an AI, fans will like to see them IRL, to have some personality, some skills, some physical trait than can make them stand out. The "human" part.

It would be very niche

The thing with virtual idols is you have to target the kids. Kids love that stuff. Young adults not so much. The industry is 100% going to force it's way into the virtual idol market seeing it's growth and money in it with vtubers and "meta" verses. But when it comes to idols I think only people between 10 and 14 will care about them. Teenagers and young adults which are the main demographic for K-pop don't care at all. I'm sure there is some crossover between the Vtuber audience and the K-pop audience but even them I think only a minority would actually buy into a virtual idol. Vocaloid idols already exist and continue to survive for now, so I'm sure there is a market for it, but it will be niche. I don't think it ever will get as popular as real human idols. But we'll see. Stranger things have happened before.

I don't think virtual idols will get the same vitriolic reaction NFT idols are getting right now, but I also don't think we are close to a viral popularity boost by any company that tries to launch one. SM already kind of tried to meddle with it with Aespa, but I don't think anyone actually cares about the virtual part of their concept.

Anyway fuck NFTs. Virtual idols I don't care about personally but I don't mind if other people do. NFTs can go straight to hell.
