It's reported on Japanese TV and trending #1 world wide

Johnny Kitagawa was the founder and president of Johnny & Associates, the most powerful idol agency in Japan. For decades, "Johnny's" dominated the boy group market, producing several of the most successful and popular entertainers in the history of the country including SMAP, Arashi, TOKIO and more.

For a longer article in English from Japanese sources, you might check this one out:
It also mentions his pedophilia controversy.

RIP Kitagawa, Johnny will no longer be the same as they are without him right now. RIP Johnny, the man who created famous J-Pop boy groups like SMAP, Arashi, NEWS, Kis-My-Ft2 and more.

Really? That's good to know, I thought he was still very involved with the company. Either way, I'm glad he's gone. :fab:
to be fair, now that i read the english article that abra posted it says

Hideaki Takizawa, a former member of the J-pop idol duo Tackey & Tsubasa who was named president of Johnnys' Island Inc., an affiliate company of Johnny & Associates, this January, is rumored to be Kitagawa's successor.
