Pann: Business profits of the big 3

1. [+153, -34] YG has been out of the big 3 since a while ago. It's been confirmed since January. Now the big 3 is Big Hit, JYP, and SM.

2. [+149, -1] SM should focus on entertainment instead of useless businesses.

3. [+82, -5] Look at drugstore roaches being upset over their agency going into a deficit.

4. [+74, -7] The experts also agree that YG is out of the big 3. Their image aside, their profits aren't any better than an average small agency. Big Hit is surpassing the results of big 3 so the word "big 3" is also pointless. It's just Big Hit as the top.

5. [+61, -58] SM wouldn't suffer a deficit if they give up on NCT.

6. [+36, -5] SM does so many businesses and suffers a deficit from that. Once EXO has a comeback in the second half of the year, they'll make profits right away. It was the same situation last year.

7. [+35, -4] I heard that Lee Soo Man is pocketing the money, though.

8. [+32, -15] JYP has huge profits from Twice and GOT7 alone ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Their world tours and goods sell really well.

Why do people keep insisting Big Hit as part of the Big 3? Sure BTS is really influential but that is where Big Hit ends. Scandals aside, YG, JYP, and SM left marks all over the music industry and produced artists that made history- something Big Hit will have to wait years for to become part of the biggest/most influential labels.

Back in 2013/2014, people were questioning whether JYPE was still part of the Big3, since revenue-wise, JYPE was at the time struggling to recover from their WG US debut gamble. In factm they had been beaten on the revenue front by the likes of Cube and FNC. So it would seem that prestige and reputation only plays a part in being in the Big3 though I doubt there's a definitive guide for it anyway.

SM is bleeding profits cause it's giving them all to LSM's pet company aka retirement account. YG has some baccarat losses to cover. JYPE's 20% profit margin suggests that the company's more conservative business strategies (post WG) looks to be paying off, even though fans are forever complaining about them not spending enough for x or y.

And......?

Totally not a fan of any YG group but YG produced 2ne1, Big Bang, and some veteran groups I don't recall. SM produced Boa, TVXQ, Girls Generation, F(X), SHINee, and Super Junior. JYP produced Wonder Girls, 2ne1, miss A, and 2PM. All by which marked a part in history.

I don't care about sales. I care about legacy.

How much longer are people going to blame NCT for SM’s deficits when it’s already an open secret that Lee Sooman takes almost 50% of profits?

LOL. The Big 3 wasn't always JYP, SM and YG - the original Big 3 was JYP, SM and DSP. DSP was one of the top 3 kpop agencies with artists like Sech Kies, Fin.KL, Lee Hyori, SS501 and Kara. It wasn't until groups left DSP or disbanded and YG groups started to get mainstream success that YG became part of the current Big3. Big 3 means top 3 - the biggest, most financially successful, most admired agencies with the most popular groups. No one talks about DSP much nowadays, despite their legacy. So much for history.

For all the people talking about legacy, imagine if "the big 3" moniker was created way back when DSP was near the top with SM. Would people really still call DSP big 3 today just because of FINKL, Sechskies, and Kara, but now they're a nobody washed up irrelevant company? Of course not. Time erodes everything. If YG goes massively downhill and doesn't recover, its only a matter of time that legacy and history can help them before its pointless keeping them in the conversation when it comes to the present and the future. If you're not BIG, then you're not big3. There was a time before Twice where JYPE didn't really have much going on, if Twice failed to regain JYPE their momentum then it would have been completely justified to exclude them from the conversation as well.

I’m sorry to hurt you but DSP Media And SM were the companies who influenced a lot of current companies. YG just had a hit in the 2000s,

what is the difference between business profits and actual profits?

Business profit is often called operating profit. Do a quick google search of operating profit vs net profit and you'll get good articles explaining it. Basically operating profit is revenue minus cost of goods sold and any other cost of doing business. Net profit is any one time gains or expenditures that may have taken place after operating profit on the balance sheet. So if you sold a subsidiary or received some money owed to you that would not reflect in operating profit but net profit. Net profit shows you how much they made or lost at the end of the day, but operating profit is a better indicator of how the business is doing via its actual products. For example when fnc sold fnc ad culture subsidiary to SM, it made their net profit look really big that quarter due to the sale, but their operating profit was still negative. If YG starts selling off subsidiaries and assets their net profit will look rly sexy even if their operating profit is still shit.

JYP and SM are safely in the Big 3 in my opinion, it'll take A LOT to endanger their positions. YG on the other hand.....I don't think they're out of the Big 3 yet and it won't happen anytime soon, but I wonder what could happen to finally take them out like what happened to DSP.
