K-Movie: Be With You
Written by Yuki
"Everyone craves for a heartfelt love but, if that love comes, would you dare to willingly exchange important things, even your own life, to get it?" Be With You (2018), adapted from a Japanese movie of the same name which was released back in 2004, is a sweet, touching film about love, family affection, beliefs and optimism into life. Directed by Lee Jang Hoon, it might be the answer for those who are looking for happiness and faith in their life.
The movie story revolves around the life of father and son Woo jin (So Ji sub) and Ji ho (Kim Ji hwan) after the wife and mother Soo ah (Son Ye jin) died due to illness. Since then, they always wait for the rainy season because, according to Soo ah before dying, she will return when the rains come. Once it finally happens, they find Soo ah at an old station but she completely doesn't remember what happened. Together, Woo Jin and Ji ho discover possible ways to bring back Soo ah's memories so that their families can be as happy as before, however, when the rainy season passes, it is also time for Soo ah to leave. The plot is extremely simple but there is a connection between the present and the past, and there are some unreal elements, giving viewers a love story to help them appreciate the noble family's feelings. With the natural Korean storytelling, its producers make viewers focus on every detail and look forward to what will happen to the main characters. This is an extremely romantic and cute love story because of the sweetness from the movie content, from the behavior of the characters to the animation of the film. It will make you laugh but there will also be moving moments that will make you cry.
The film has many beautiful and creative angles, making viewers immersed in the feeling of the protagonists. You will feel the romance of the movie coming from the rain, put many times but always differently so the audience won't feel bored. One of the highlights of Be With You is the extremely good acting of the cast: So Ji Sub as Woojin is awesome, he can play a handsome, silly, shy but very romantic, lovely man very well, then Soo ah (Son Ye jin) will make you flutter because of her pure but also sexy beauty, her acting is extremely immersive, especially her sad emotions are expressed through genuine and natural tears and red eyes. Kim Ji hwan as Ji ho is also absolutely outstanding and adorable. The remaining roles are beautiful and extremely good actors, creating a variety of colors, laughters, tears and diversity in the interplay between the past and the present of the film.
Although in the middle of the quiet and peaceful rhythm of the film there are moments as sad as the falling of raindrops, Be With You still shines hope. The audience will cry, will laugh with the film, but most importantly instill the true meaning of "happy ending" in love. Happiness is not something too far away, just being with the person you love, your heart fills itself up and our life becomes more complete than ever.
