When the program's topic shifted to proposals, the MC asked Nomura, "Rumor has it that you have proposed to Hirose Suzu-chan in the past?" He confessed, "That's true. I've done it [proposed] several times."
It seems Nomura was serious about his proposal as he revealed, "I even met her mother to ask if I could marry her [Suzu]. I also got permission from her manager."
Apparently, Hirose responded to him that she would consider marrying him if she is still unmarried around 45. Nomura stated, "I still have hope."
The two co-starred in the movie 'Chihayafuru' series. They are also friends in private.

Why would you propose to someone if you're not dating?
Marriage in Japan is still seen as being a practical, economic transaction, not just a romantic one, so many people get married even without dating. It is considered their adult responsibility to start a family, so people end up settling for whoever their family introduces them to as a potential spouse if they can't find someone on their own.
