Is there a particular tone you use when you say those names? Trying to figure out why they would say you sound like a witch

soft spoken and affectionate. Usually a witch felt menacing tone when they said it in stories... aka Hansel and Gretel. Is there a particular tone you use when you say those names? Trying to figure out why they would say you sound like a witch

I find that some people associate words with a particular connotation/feeling so even if you're not using any tone, they assume things based on what you've said
I'm so used to calling kids 'buddy' at work that I've started to call other kids around me that too. In my heritage, 'buddy' is a word that's very rarely used so my cousins and the kids I tutor as a side hustle always give me this look when I accidentally call them that haha

And I agree. People assume like that. Well I do joke about it sometimes for a laugh lol
