1. Citizens of Hong Kong please find strengthㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Don't get hurtㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ What generation is China living in? They're crazy

2. Seriously in what generation are they living in? It not like they're some rebel forces of Africa, this is just dumfounding..

3. They said that they closed the internet so there might be traffic jam issues too..

4. It's a smart move to start demonstrating at the airport tooㅇㅇㅇ They need to do this so they can appear in the top news of the country

5. Are we really living in 2019?

6. I still remember my mom telling me to not go front and to stay at the back of the building during the Gwanghwamun demonstration. I really wonder how many people there are now? Hongkong really looks dangerous right now

7. This is seriously crazy... I hope the Hong Kong citizens don't get hurt and find strength

8. Free Hong Kong!!!!!!!!!

9. China has gone nuts, I hope this hits them back

One of the reasons I am railed up about the protest is not so much the implications on the relationship between Hong Kong and mainland China, but the implications on the perceptions of the oversea Chinese community.

These advocates for the protesters routinely perpetuate a "Us vs Them" mentality against oversea Chinese people, especially toward the students. The "Us" includes not just the protesters, but other people with "Western" values, which reeks of superiority complex and Eurocentrism.

Given the political climate that we are in, these gestures targeted against oversea Chinese community, online or otherwise, seems to be a direct incitement of white anxiety. And this is a tactic that we as people living in the West could not be more familiar with: finger pointing at some group of people (e.g., the fobs) in order to gain favor with the whites.

Moreover, these advocates are quite happy to further perpetuate negative racial stereotypes against Chinese people using characterizations such as: they are brainwashed (appeal to xenophobia), they are violent cowards (appeal to yellow peril), they are rude and uncultured (appeal to Eurocentrism).

Finally, the nail in the coffin is the silence on racism, global white supremacy, and colonialism, compounded by efforts to distort or downplay these social issues along with an occasional blatant flaunting of ignorance (such as calling Trump for help, out of all the people).

People in the West shouldn't forget about Xinjiang and Tibet as well.

It's easy to cheer on from afar, but no democracy in the world is really standing up from them. I could see the US actually using them to benefit from the trade war. Sadly the situation may have started as black & white, but as it escalate it just starts to become more muddle and hawks and vultures of politics are just flying over the situation.
