I kept up through Gen 4 (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum - my personal favorite in the franchise.)

I dropped off around 5th gen, never played 6th or 7th gen (but I did watch the 7th gen anime, and actually enjoyed it a fair bit.)
Gen 8 I got back into it pretty heavily, and was enjoying playing competitively for the first time in over a decade.
Tried Gen 9 and wasn't feeling it, so I'm on break again until next gen...
