Have you ever feel that you need to shut down your brain to enjoy a series/movie/drama/novel/comic,etc?
Nowadays, there are a lot of people saying: i need to "turn off my brain" or "not to think too deep about this" to be able to read or watch something that features a controversial topic ( emphasis on controversial topic because there are people who say the same thing but with boring or repetitive plots)
Isn't it obvious that what you enjoy in fictional situations doesn't translate into you liking it in reality?
Example: A movie/series/manga where the main character is in love with someone but, in the name of that love, that main character stalks and harasses their love interest and, this whole situation is paint as a comedy.
If the comedy fits my humor and the characters are likeable, i will consume this story.
In real life, this situation is a HUGE NO!!!!+ There are real victims of stalking...should that stops me to watch/read it?
Tags and warnings are common now so, you can decide if you want to consume it or not.
If you already know how to separate reality from fiction, you can enjoy everything that fits your taste not matter how many red flags are there, right?

I'm usually fine with it in fiction. It can make me feel uncomfortable but that is part of the experience, if that is how it is supposed to be represented in the work.
I am more concerned with when issues I would never tolerate in real life are portrayed in a positive or humorous light. It takes away from my experience but I can still enjoy the work if the other parts are good.

I agree with what you said, And if I personally find the plot uncomfortable I’d simply not watch it (I’ve done this numerous times before). However I feel like the influence media has on its audience isn’t taken seriously enough (this is referring to more extreme topics), as it can really change your perception on certain topics.

Yeah, it should be obvious that what you enjoy in fictional situations doesn't translate into you liking it in reality. It's bizarre that it even needs to be said these days. There's nothing wrong with being uncomfortable with something, if it's not for you that's ok. If you are not mature enough to know stalking and harassment is bad you have no business engaging with that piece of media to begin with. Don't like something listed in the trigger warnings? Don't read it and then judge people who enjoy it. People enjoy dark media for many reasons, so jumping to the conclusion that someone condones certain behavior in reality is bonkers and frankly annoying.

If I only consumed media full of content I agreed with irl, I'd be bored out my mind. *puts away his hundreds of games that revolve around shooting people*
I saw a new one recently, the britbox streaming service now displays 'contains language and attitudes of the time that may offend.' before old shows, because apparently some peoples lives are so fucking empty, that they'd legit get offended about the content of a show from the 70sTags and warnings are common now so, you can decide if you want to consume it or not.
