Sakura songs to celebrate Sakura's birthday & Cardcaptor Sakura

Yesterday I came across a tweet from a radio station who played cherry blossom themed songs to signal the event of spring. Today is Miyawaki Sakura's birthday and we're in the middle of a Cardcaptor Sakura event so what better time to take that idea to H+?

I'll post some of my favourite Sakura songs below, but feel free to add your own!

Ikimonogakari - Sakura


Ikimonogakari's debut single Sakura is a great example of why they would quickly become one of Japan's most loved groups. The song draws a the connection between falling cherry blossoms and departure as two lovers walk their separate ways after their graduation. The lyrics, composition and Kiyoe's stellar voice combine to make this an emotional spring classic.

AKB48 - Sakura no Hanabiratachi


AKB48 is the biggest and most successful Japanese girl group of all time. But the group comes from relatively humble beginnings and found it hard to get an audience for their early performances. Their first single Sakura no Hanabiratachi nevertheless set the group on to the path of success.

Team Syachihoko - Chérie


All the songs up until now have been sentimental but Team Syachihoko's Chérie showcases another take on the sakura theme. Cherry blossoms also represent spring, and spring is the season of love and rebirth. Chérie represents these themes with a positive upbeat song about budding love and growth and a music video filled with QR codes.


Wagakkiband - Senbonsakura


Any list of sakura songs would be lacking without an inclusion for Senbonzakura, maybe the most famous vocaloid song ever made. It's been covered a ton of times but few have done it as well as Wagakki Band.

Utada Hikaru - Sakura Drops


After several heartbreaks Utada is ready for her love to bloom again in this song with a very distinctive and prominent instrumental. Will her love last this time, or will it be over already by the time the cherry blossoms drop?
