The Flash and Elemental Flops Send Red Alerts for 2 of Hollywood's Biggest Box Office Brands
Do the theatrical woes for Pixar and DC, after the disastrous box office of Elemental and The Flash, send signals for the entire moviegoing sector? It might get worse before it gets better

'Elemental' - Pixar's Worst Opening In Modern History
I guess 'Elemental' was out of its...element.

Ezra Miller's 'The Flash,' Pixar's first rom-com 'Elemental' disappoint at box office
Ezra Miller's DC movie "The Flash" and Disney Pixar's first rom-com "Elemental" topped the box office, but neither movie did huge numbers.

‘The Flash’ Disappoints With $55 Million Debut, Pixar’s ‘Elemental’ Flops With $29.5 Million in Battle of Box Office Lightweights
“The Flash,” a superhero adventure starring Ezra Miller, emerged victorious over Pixar’s “Elemental” in a battle of box office lightweights. This weekend’s two n…

not only that but Elemental also had the worst opening week for a Pixar movie, in the case of The FLASH it opened below "Black Adam" and is unlikely to past the later
also reminder that movie studios don't get every dollar at the box office and instead get anywhere from 1/3 to half of the cost of each ticket, to put things in perspective about how horrendous these numbers are
Elemental production budget was $200 million and the marketing budget $100 million so $300 million total
The FLASH production budget was $220 million and the marketing budget $110 million so $330 million total
Elemental need to do $600 million+ just to break even and FLASH need to do $650 million+, again not to make money but just to break even
the thing is that so far both are locked to end below $400 million so each is going to lose their studios at least $100 million (and in the case of FLASH maybe even $200 million...)
in the case of FLASH they at least are planning to reboot the DCEU so i guess it doesn't matter that much it if bombs but in the case of Pixar they already fired 75 workers and are likely going to fire more after this news

Exclusive: Walt Disney's Pixar targets 'Lightyear' execs among 75 job cuts
While small compared to Pixar's employee base of about 1,200, the layoffs are notable because the studio is a creative force generating franchises and characters that drive revenue across Disney.

crazy how dominant Pixar was during the 2000s and 2010s yet this past couple of years most of their movies had either disappointed or straight up flopped

I heard flash was supposed to be pretty good in testing. Elemental got good ratings. But, not what life is about i suppose.

Flash bombed SO HARD :RMplsdont: I'm honestly surprised considering the huge hype Warner built around this.
And i've heard good things about Elemental. But tbh the target audience is kinda confusing.

deserve !

I heard flash was supposed to be pretty good in testing.
after the first screenings there were reports (by WB of course) of standing ovations while the credits were rolling... so FLASH isn't bad, maybe is actually even "good" but definitely didn't lived to the hypeFlash bombed SO HARD :RMplsdont: I'm honestly surprised considering the huge hype Warner built around this.
i think WB screwed up here because they tried to make people think this was going to be a huge event movie (a la Avengers, etc) but audiences didn't buy into it

there is nothing wrong with Elemental but the problem is that it's just the same Pixar formula of "what if ____ were like humans and have feelings?" that's basically the plotAnd i've heard good things about Elemental. But tbh the target audience is kinda confusing.
i think that with the Mario movie and Spiderverse still in theaters there are plenty of better more interesting choices in Animation out there
