Summary of the recent Jung Woo Sung scandal

I don't have much smaller kpop news lately (hence no news roundups this past week or so) but I thought I would report on the biggest gossip for Knetz right now, which is the drama around famous actor Jung Woo Sung.

Jung Woo Sung (51) is a very famous veteran actor in the Kdrama industry. A few dramas/movies he's been in is Tell Me That You Love Me (2023/2024), Beat (1997), Innocent Witness (2019), and many many more.

Here is the scandal broken down into parts:

Part 1

The recent drama started when famous model Moon Gabi (35) revealed she had a son this past march, and the father of her child is Jung Woo Sung.

The two met in 2022. Based on the reports I have been reading, many people believe the two were in a situationship since 2022, Gabi got pregnant in 2023, she had her son in 2024, and sometime between her getting pregnant and giving birth they split.

Moon Gabi has stated that when she found out she was pregnant she wanted to get married, but Jung Woo Sung (further abbreviated as JWS) said he was not ready for marriage was against it. He said he would pay her child support and he did take a paternity test, but he would have no part in the child's life or act as a father to the child. In her social media posts Gabi has also been implying that she is raising her son as a single mother.

This very much upset Knetz because they were mad at him not taking proper responsibility for his child, and trying to hide his child's existence from the public and acting like he doesn't exist.

Knetz have seemed to be pretty split on whether or not the two should have gotten married. While in South Korea it is common for two people to marry for the sake of the child, Knetz were split on whether it was good or bad they didn't get married because there was no point in a loveless marriage.

There is also speculation whether the two were in a situationship or if it was a one night stand. Apparently the parties have stated they never formally dated(?)

His company did release this statement confirming he was the father, and that he was apparently taking responsibility?​

It’s true that actor Jung Woo Sung is the biological father of the child that Moon Gabi revealed on social media. He is currently in the process of discussing the best possible avenues for childcare, and as a father, he will take full responsibility for the child until the end.​

Part 2

Things took a turn from here.

After this was revealed, it was also revealed that JWS had a girlfriend who he has been in a relationship with pretty "publicly" for the past year. (By publicly I mean all of their friends and family knew they were dating, but I do not think the internet/public knew he was dating).

This caused even more of a scandal because as the timeline matches up, he was definitely cheating on both women at the same time and he was hiding Moon Gabi's pregnancy and their child from her (and I am assuming their friends/family) as well.

It has also been rumored that this girlfriend was born in 1998, making her only 26 years old.

JWS's company has not yet released a statement on this accusation.

Part 3

A new girlfriend enters the villa

This time, reports have stated intimate photos of JWS with another woman was leaked. It was reported that this person is a non-celebrity and they have been in a committed long term relationship for a long time

This relationship was apparently well known and the two have even been seen publicly on a double date with other famous friends of his.

I don't have an article link confirming this, but online people are saying one of his girlfriends he has been with for 10 years. I am assuming this woman is that person they are talking about. She is an accountant, and her age has not been revealed.

As far as I am aware she also did not originally know he was/was becoming a father, but the previous Koreaboo article I linked to said that JWS was apparently planning on marrying this woman and taking custody of Gabi's child so they could raise them together? (I would take this source with a grain of salt right now though). His company has not yet responded on this accusation.)

This woman also cheated on her ex husband and left him for JWS and has been living with JWS in a common-law marriage for these past 10 years.

About this news, his company has stated:​

“Please understand that we cannot confirm this as it is the actor’s personal life.”​

He also decided not to attend the Blue Dragon Film Awards due to this scandal.

This news is from awhile ago, but it has to do with JWS so i'm including it here.

JWS was rumored to be dating his former costar Shin Hyun Been after the two have been spotted with matching couple items. The two actors were costars in the drama Tell Me You Love Me.

Both actor's companies have released statements denying the dating rumors and saying were just groundless speculation, and the matching items they had was just matching crew items from the drama they filmed together.

A recent variety show clip of JWS from November of last year has been resurfacing online after all this drama.

In the variety show JWS was saying how he really wishes to get married but couldn't, he missed his time to get married.

As you can probably understand, this clip has very much angered Knetz since he was on this show talking about wanting to get married, while dating 3 women with one of them being pregnant.

So in total, JWS was cheating on 3 women at the same time. I am also starting to hear rumors of a 4th woman? But i'm not adding that in until I can see more definitive articles/proof about it.

He's trash. He legit did the same thing as this Korean actor guy. Got one of his flings pregnant, left the mother and refused to acknowledge the child as a part of his family despite having two other children with different mothers. At least pays child support.

But refusing to acknowledge your child is all kinds of mental. Not caring about psychologically scarring your child in the future when they come home asking why their father doesn't accept them is just insane to me.

Knetz are calling him a deadbeat because he didn’t marry Gabi when she became pregnant and isn’t taking an active role in raising the child.

I feel like in American terms, he wouldn’t 100% be a deadbeat because he did promise to financially support the child and took the dna test and signed the birth certificate, he just had no interest in getting married and physically playing an active role in the child life.

I also didn’t see any reports that he wasn’t paying child support and Gabi never said he wasn’t paying, so I’m assuming he’s on top of that.

Knetz are more traditional so in their terms he’s a deadbeat for not “doing the proper thing”, but I think it’s more personal opinion on whether you consider him a deadbeat or not.

Ok, cheating is a behavior that should be condemned and not romanticized AT ALL.

But the guy was having with 3 different woman and one don't know about the others?? I don't underestimate women's sixth sense. They know. It just seems that they chose to ignore this fact, you know? Expecting him to leave the others and be a "good man" to them.

As @Polaris_Tae sort of said, it seems he got bullied into being an active father.

- originally he was paying child support to not have to be in the child’s life at all.

- after the scandal broke out, his company put out a statement saying he will be stepping up as a father

- also during all of this, a report (?) came out saying when the 10yr relationship women found out she threatened to leave him over this, but he promised her he would get custody of the child and they could raise it together and he was reportedly seen talking to lawyers about this. The source for this is something to be taken with a grain of salt though.
