Zhang Yixing (Lay) = CK's model
However, on Calvin Klein's Chinese and American website, Hong Kong is its own country separated from China
The American website even separated Taiwan.
The netizens were furious once they discovered this
The content is basically him supporting China~~~
He said that if there's a controversy surrounding the brand he represents in the future, they will face the risk of him cancelling the contract.
CK's apology post
Summary: Apologizing and that there was a translation error. They are also supporting China
+ similar thing that happened yesterday~today with other brands
Actress Yangmi - cancelled contract with Versace
Singer Jackson Yi - cancelled contract with Givenchy
Brands like Givenchy, ASICS, Calvin Klein and Coach all released an apology statement today
ASICS and Coach's celebrity models also released a statement
(Even ex-models who are not even working with Coach now released a statement K)
They are going through all the brands' sites to expose them
They really have nothing else to do

I keep seeing fans of these celebrities saying not to bash them and to think of them as victims but it's hard to do that when the real victims are on the streets while these celebrities roll around in money.

Is it pressure or are these his own thoughts?
What are these brands apologizing for in the first place?

They're apologising because China is taking a tough One China policy in light of the civil unrest in HK right now. They're reminding international organisations/companies that China holds the power; any support for HK and TW as separate countries, covert or not, will now be taken seriously (sanctions/boycotts, etc). Most, if not all, international brands would much rather apologise and take the One China stance because the mainland Chinese market is certainly much more commercially viable. The country is also gaining a lot more political/economic power, so it's not worth it for them to upset China's government. Is it pressure or are these his own thoughts?
What are these brands apologizing for in the first place?
Previously, there was an uneasy balance where China would turn a blind eye if the English website wrote "Hong Kong" as if it were a separate country in the region as long as the Chinese website clarified that Hong Kong is a special administration region of China, but they are no longer being lenient with that.
It is both pressure & his own thoughts, I believe. There is a huge amount of pressure on Chinese celebs to be "socially responsible", in this career, take the One China stance, or put their career at great risk. However, Lay in particular seems to have always been strongly pro-China.
When it comes to Lay, I'm pretty sure it's his own thoughts. He had that map of China thing that was widely circulated after the south China sea row as his Instagram DP. Most celebs merely posted it but he made it his DP, for a rather long time in fact.Is it pressure or are these his own thoughts?

It's ironic that the CCP's power and influence increased after they dropped the typical communist model of a command economy, and adopted the Western model of the market economy. Previous to this, their ability to influence the West would be comparable to what NKorea is currently able to influence aka not much. Nowadays, with companies falling over backwards to appease Chinese consumers for the sake of $$$, the CCP has found a new avenue for influence.
I guess that's one of the weaknesses of the market economy - everything has a price.
